Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we give you the scoop on what's
happening in and out of the wrestling ring. Somedays it's even funny!

Mick Foley
to Host Robot Wars
Beginning Monday, August 20th, TNN will start airing "Robot Wars" at
8pm, right before WWF Raw is War. The host will be Mick Foley!
From
TNNOnline.com: “Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors is a revolutionary sport
in which teams design and build radio-controlled fighting machines to
battle it out to see whose robot is supreme. Only the elite robots will
take on the dreaded and infamous "house robots" whose only purpose is
to maim and destroy (one house robot uses a flaming 2x4 wrapped in barbed
wire, the other uses a sweat sock.) The competitors rely on their lighting-fast
reactions and driving ability along with the imaginative and effective
design of their robots to defeat their mortal enemies.” And the media
said that TNN would never find a way to shake the hillbilly network
image.
Scott Hudson
Gets a Job
Scott Hudson, the former WCW announcer, reportedly has a meeting at
WWF headquarters this week. It is expected that he will be offered a
job as a WCW play-by-play announcer. It is still unknown who would be
the color commentator with Hudson, although the name Jerry Lawler continues
to get a lot of talk.
Chris Adams
Arrested
From the Dallas Morning News 6/28/01: “Professional wrestler Christopher
Adams turned himself into Collin County authorities Monday on manslaughter
charges in connection with the April 2000 death of a Dallas woman. Linda
Kaphengst, 30, died from an overdose of alcohol and Gamma-Hydroxy-Butyrate
(GHB) April 22., according to the Collin County medical examiner. She
had been at a Far North Dallas apartment early that morning with Mr.
Adams, who also overdosed, police said. Mr. Adams, 45, who wrestled
professionally under the name "Gentleman Chris," was released on a $25,000
bond Monday night, authorities said. He faces a second-degree felony
charge of causing the death of an individual, which carries a maximum
penalty of 20 years in prison and a $2,000 fine.” For those of you saying
“Chris Adams who?” Adams is an old school wrestler from the 80's. He
was a top star for World Class Championship Wrestling. With partner
Gino Hernandez the "Dynamic Duo" heel team feuded with the Von Erich
brothers, and as a babyface he held the WCCW World Heavyweight title,
defeating Rick Rude for the belt. Later, he also ran his own wrestling
school out of Dallas, with his most famous student going on to become
Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Chris Benoit
Injury Update
WWF.com reported that Chris Benoit had his neck surgery Thursday in
San Antonio, TX. After undergoing tests, Benoit opted to have a more
in-depth surgery and will be out at least six months (2002!) He could
have had a "quick fix" surgery that would have gotten him back to the
ring sooner, but he then might have needed another surgery in a year
or two. This surgery should bring him back to 100% health. Benoit is
resting at the hospital and has already met with a therapist. The WWF
also said that the operation was taped and footage will be shown on
Heat this week. The operation was performed by Dr. Lloyd Youngblood,
the same man who operated on Steve Austin. I can’t think of anything
funny to say, so I’ll just be random. BUY MORE CORN!
Rappin with
Linda McMahon
A conference call was held Thursday morning with WWF CEO Linda McMahon
and CFO August Ligouri to discuss fourth quarter earnings and review
prospects for the coming fiscal year. Among the non-boring parts:
- Losses for the company were less than expected
over the last quarter. (That’s good.)
- There are plans to schedule live WCW house shows,
and possibly three or four separate WCW PPVs in the coming year, with
the first tentatively scheduled for October.
- There are currently no plans for a separate WCW
television show. The reason Linda McMahon gave for not doing a separate
show for WCW is that in the current TV and advertising market there
may not be sufficient revenues to justify the increased production
costs. The reason Linda McMahon gave for not doing a separate
show for WCW is that in the current TV and advertising market there
may not be sufficient revenues to justify the increased production
That may change depending upon the success of WCW house shows and
PPV events.
- Smackdown will go live on Thursday nights which Linda believes will help ratings,
and she blamed wrestling internet sites for "Smackdown
Spoilers" that inhibit viewership. Yeah! Bad internet sites!
Bad! (FanboyPlanet.com pats itself on the back.)
- There will be a possible WCW tour of Asia in September
or October. There are also projected programming and PPV deals
in foreign markets which will add significantly to revenues.
- Linda declared Tough Enough
on MTV a success, with a guarantee of thirteen shows. She also talked
about the success of Smackdown Records, which will release
a "Tough Enough" album in September (already??) and has
signed its first band, "Erotica". There was also talk of
the success of "The Mummy 2", and that the prequel "Scorpion
King", now being filmed, will earn the WWF a production fee of
$2 million and The Rock will receive a flat guarantee of $5.5 million
plus a progressive percentage of box office revenues. Finally, Linda
talked about the possibility of the WWF co-producing future movie
deals with major studios such as Universal and Paramount.
WCW invades
WWF House Shows
With so many big name WWF stars on the injured list, some of WCW's biggest
stars are picking up the pace and wrestling WWF house shows. Scheduled
for the July 1st show in Spokane, Washington, Booker T will defend his
WCW World Title against Buff Bagwell. Also, WCW Cruiserweight Champion,
"Sugar" Shane Helms will take on Chavo Guerrero Jr. for the Title. Chris
Jericho vs. William Regal is the main event. Hurry back Rocky!

DDP
Diamond Dallas had a new rant at his ddpbang.com
site. Here's some highlights:
·
Says that all the rumors about the WWF locker room being great
are true.
·
The entire WWF has a "I Love to Be Here, I Love My Job"
feel.
·
Page also says that the WCW rings are 18 feet across and the
WWF's are 20 feet. He says it's a real difference running the ropes
and by God the WWF is so great to have a bigger ring. (Ass-kisser)
·
He's been hanging with the Big Show and making him run his
fat ass off too. (About time)
·
Page said he always felt like he was getting screwed in angles
in WCW but never thinks of it now in the WWF. (maybe cause he’s been
in the WWF for about 2 weeks?)
·
DDP begs people to boo him for being a coward as he is the
EVIL DDP. (Ass-kisser)
·
He says that he and Sara's hair pull thing was like Roseanna
Arquette and Tony Soprano in True Romance. Then he says to go rent
True Romance.
Tough Enough
Episode #1
Tough Enough made its season debut last night on MTV and it was pretty
good. If you missed the show, you can read a full recap here.
For the rest of
you that did see it, I’ll offer my thoughts on who my predicted winner
is for the show. Keep in mind I have the right to change my mind at
anytime.
Male Winner:
Chris, the guy from Harvard (not Chris that wears the extremely gay
dog collar) already has three months wrestling training on all the other
contestants. He’s got the right look and his background of Harvard gives
him a ready made gimmick to enter the WWF with. The Genius 2001!
Female Winner:
Paulina has size and looks above the rest of the female cast.
It’s a
fair estimation to call her “the blonde Chyna.” She’s easily the front
runner, but when it comes time for those nude playboy spreads, will
she have the balls? Wait, I didn’t mean it like that.
Next to go: Darrel
is turning out to be a 25 year old couch potato. There is no way in
hell he can make it as a WWF Superstar. But will the judges keep Darrel
in the cast for his “entertainment” value? Look how long Jerry “the
bitch America loves to hate” Manthey lasted on Survivor 2. The first
person to leave the show should set the tone for how the rest of the
series will go.
I guess that’s all
for today. I have to go rent True Romance now cause the EVIL DDP told
me to.
