E3 got underway
today as thousands of game fans disguised as industry workers
invaded the Staples center. For the most part everyone will
be talking about the big games like Half -Life 2, Halo 2,
Doom 3 as well as the two new portable platforms soon to be
released, but we here at Fanboy Planet wanted to shine the
light on a few other games that should make you our geek culture
sit up and take notice.

We say:
There is more to this game than meets the...forget the pun,
this game looks cool. They have done a great job of making
the gamer feel like that are controlling a mighty robot
and made transforming useful. No word yet on how well the
game actually plays but you can bet we are trying to get
our hands on it.

Leisure
Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude
Platform: PC, GC, PS2, Xbox
Publisher: Vivendi Universal
Developer: High Voltage Software, Inc.
Release Date: 11/01/2004
Genre: Adventure
They say:
College is tough for Larry - he's basically a pathetic
loser who occasionally gets out and hits on chicks, but
things always go horribly wrong. When a reality TV dating
show comes to campus, Larry decides he's going to revitalize
his life by winning the contest and proving once and for
all that he can live up to the shining example set by his
Old Uncle Larry.
Follow Larry's
hilarious exploits and misadventures in the wackiest college
story ever. Updated for the 21st century with 3D graphics,
engaging real-time conversations, and a fully realized college
campus, Larry is back to give gamers some lovin'. Remember,
it's not about who you impress, but who you get to undress!
We
say: The Larry series has always depended on adolescent
humor mixed with sexual innuendo and frankly those concepts
just never go out of style. The original Leisure Suit Larry
series by Sierra got me through some very awkward times
in my teen years. I had assumed the franchise died around
the time I met my wife, but apparently it was just dormant.
(insert your own joke about my sex life now.)
Larry was always
a fun romp, but this latest installment is the first one
that doesn't have series creator Al Lowe behind it. That
could be good or may not matter at all. I mean how hard
is it to write penis jokes?
We
wouldn't kick this game out of bed, but we reserve the right
not to call it in the morning.
