As Winter Descends On a City of Heroes...

True to their word, the developers of City of Heroes have rewarded their subscribers with a special Winter Event. The Winter Lord and his Winter Horde have come to Paragon City, spreading snow and bad vibes wherever they go!

Much like the Halloween event, this special treat features a temporary group of brand new villains come to terrorize the citizens of Paragon. Defeating 100 of them in combat will eventually earn you the “Cold Warrior” badge, which your character can proudly display, and each successful “Snowman” kill gifts you with the ability to chuck snowballs at villains AND your fellow heroes.

The Winter Lord himself is a Giant Monster who takes numerous heroes to defeat, but the reward is the limited “Frozen Fury” badge. What does he look like? Think of Frosty on steroids. To find the Lord, all you have to do is go to the hazard zones of the city, where civilians and lower level heroes dare not tread. Wait long enough, and he’ll get pissed off and come out of hiding.

Sadly, the servers have become too unstable from recent updates for a snow-covered city to become a reality (though the developers may have had other reasons, as well), but Cryptic have made good on their promise of a Christmas present by giving every existing character in the game the option to respecify their powers.

This “free respec” allows players to completely rechoose their powers, dropping any redundant or sadly less-than-useful ones.

Heh. And they say crimefighting doesn’t pay…
