NEWS
UFC had a PPV and Randy Couture got beat by Chuck Liddel.
Not what I expected, I’ve always thought that Couture
was the best fighter of the modern UFC, but it happened.
The real fireworks came after the show in a hospital. Nick
Diaz, who had just lost to Joe Riggs in a fight that really
could have been scored either way, attacked Riggs in the
hospital after the fight. Both guys were banged up, and
Diaz supposedly sucker-punched Riggs which will probably
mean he’s getting suspended. The UFC has blown it
before when they’re handed programs like this, but
I’m betting we get a violent rematch between these
two.
RAW
I came in late, arriving just as Edge and Lita were in with
Maria. They chattered for a while, threatening Maria and
Hacksaw Jim Duggan came out and got a good reaction. He
then called Lita a ‘HOOOOOO!!!’ and Edge attacked
him. Duggan actually took a bump through the ropes to the
outside. They then set up Maria for an Edge Spear, but Cena
stopped them, setting up a match for later in the night.
Chris
Masters took on Kane. I expected terrible things, and I
kinda got them. Masters is learning, but he’s still
not crisp. Honestly, I think he’s pretty good in tag
teams because he’s starting to understand the way
to use the MasterLock to build heat, which he did here,
but that seems to be all he understands. Kane kept escaping
the MasterLock and got a good deal of offense. He escaped
from a MasterLock and kicked Chris in the head. He tried
it a second time and Masters sat down and grabbed some rope
to get the pin. Not a really good match, but it also wasn’t
the worst thing on the show.
Ashley beat Mickie
James in about a minute in a bad match. Ashley’s punches
are worse than Cena’s. Not by much, mind you, but
still worse. Mickie James can go a bit, but here she was
just bad. Mickie went for a Flying Forearm, but Ashley moved
and Mickie kinda hit Trish. She got up and looked mad, but
Ashley rolled-up Mickie as she was trying to check on Trish.
Trish walked out of the ring fast and Mickie looked confused
and unhappy that Trish counted her down. Bad segment, good
ending for storylines.
They replayed
the classic Pete Rose getting taken out by Kane from the
late 1990s. I loved that bit.
Triple H, who
is obviously winning this tourney for the shot at Cena at
WrestleMania, beat Ric Flair. It wasn’t a bad match,
as both of these guys can work a smart match, even if Flair’s
not what he used to be and H was only half-way motivated.
Flair walked over H a bit, getting a lot of advantages and
H was giving more than usual. Even more than he did against
Chavo last week. Flair Ducked when he thought that H was
going for a clothesline, but H Pedigreed him for the win.
Not a bad match at all.

We were about
to get Shawn Michaels vs. The Big Show, but Vince came out
and said that next week, Shawn Michaels would be retired,
and that he would have to show up. Vince then said that
he’s not going to let Shawn wrestle for the shot at
Mania, and so he was replaced him with Shelton Benjamin.
The winning streak that Shelton has been enjoying was broken
when Show Chokeslammed him, but Shelton got to do all sorts
of stuff, including knocking Show out. Mama got involved,
but Show yelled at her and she backed away. Poor Shelton.
They replayed
the Orton stuff from SmackDown! Bastards.
Wow, RVD vs.
Carlito wasn’t a bad match either, though RVD is still
rusty. RVD started off by coming off the top, but Carlito
moved and sent Van Dam into the railing. Good to see him
doing his spots again. Carlito worked hard and RVD did his
stuff, including a Split-Legged Moonsault into Carlito’s
knees. Carlito went for a German Suplex, but RVD hit him
with a couple of elbows, but Carlito still got the Back
Cracker for a near fall. Carlito went to the outside and
got a chair, but the ref grabbed it and tried to take it
away. This allowed RVD to hit the Van Terminator. That then
allowed RVD to get the Five Star Frog Splash for the pin.
Good stuff, especially the Frog Splash return. The voting
for who people thought would win the tourney gave RVD a
twenty point edge over HHH. Will anyone listen?
This
led to the match where Cena and Maria took on Lita and Edge.
Maria had gone into Cena’s lockerroom saying she was
afraid and Cena kissed her to shut her up. That smooth devil.
The
match was bad, though Edge and Lita both tried. It wasn’t
much of a match either, as it was really short. The real
reason for the match was that the winner got to choose the
special ref for the match next week between Edge and Cena.
Cena brought out Mick Foley and he got a good pop.
I liked this
show. I’ve heard folks say it was really bad, but
I thought that it worked well. I don’t like the direction
they’re going with HHH, but still, I can’t hold
that against this particular show.
That’s
all for this week. More next!
