Torchwood
is linked to a series of brutal murders around the city.
As Jack and the team investigate further, it becomes clear
somebody wants their attention. What is Pilgrim and how
is it connected to a figure from Torchwood’s past?
The resurrection days are far from over.
Now
that all of the characters have been properly introduced,
Torchwood can finally get on with the main emphasis
of the show and introduce a storyline that is going to shape
the first season.
Over
the last seven episodes we have been introduced to the members
of the Torchwood team. We have gotten to know their state
of mind, what they bring to the team and what they think
of each other. With this now out of the way, the writers
can concentrate more on the story and less on character
building.
‘They
Keep Killing Suzie,' like episode
six ‘Countrycide’, concentrates on the team
and not an individual. When a string of murders becomes
attached to Torchwood and the clues lead them nowhere, Captain
Jack makes the decision to use the Resurrection Gauntlet
on the victims to help them with the case.
With
disgraced agent Suzie Costello not available to operate
it, it falls to Gwen to don the gauntlet. When Torchwood’s
newest recruit can’t keep victims alive long enough
to get them the talk, Captain Jack has to make a command
decision. He needs to bring Suzie back.
This
episode again takes Torchwood down a darker path.
The episode gives the chance for the story to shine and
this one shows the true potential of the series. With well
written twists and turns and a revelation that will set
up the rest of the season, this is the episode that finally
sets the series off running.
While
some ‘Whovians’ have been slightly disappointed
with the start of Torchwood, it is finally starting
to deliver on its premise and promise. This is a show that
continues to grow and as Russell T. Davies and his team
did with the two previous Doctor Who series, it
is building towards a conclusion that will have repercussions
for everyone at Torchwood and maybe even everyone on Earth.
