They apparently
have no problem playing Sun City...
Though it's only
been three episodes, it seems like we've been holding steady at seven
contestants for a long time. They are starting to develop the kind of
closeness we saw in the first season, both with each other and with
their trainers. We've already seen one way that can backfire (Pete and
Jackie), but tonight we see even more.
To the delight of
all, Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson visit for a barbecue and pool party
before the contestants depart for South Africa. The girls get a chance
to talk with other female wrestlers about the business, and the guys
well, it's Stacy and Torrie. They're just grateful to be able
to share a hot tub with them.
Even in front of
company, Hawk is still the favored target. Granted, he sets himself
up for the others to knock him down, but it's obviously wearing on him,
no matter how good-natured it may be. Whatever is building up inside
him is about to come out, in a big way.
As the crew departs
on their working vacation, Big informs the contestants that they will
be making a cut while they are in South Africa. It's going to loom pretty
heavily over them, but not so much that they can't enjoy the sights,
or the beautiful Palace Hotel.
They'll be wrestling
in an amphitheater, in an old, hard, stiff ring that once carried the
great weight of Andre the Giant. Out in the sun, they learn body slams
on a surface probably hot enough to cook eggs on, and run cardio drills
around the grounds.
It's hot. They're
tired. And Big is bored. He wants to play some mind games, so he plans
to ask them all after lunch whether they want to train some more, or
take a nap. Al, the good cop, insists that none of the contestants will
be stupid enough to admit to wanting a nap (and therefore not being
tough enough), and if they do, then they deserve to train. Big agrees
that if they say they want to train, they can have the afternoon off.
If they want to nap, they're working.
Al's faith is, of
course, misplaced. The high comfort level has fostered an atmosphere
of honesty. Only Jake wants to keep training, so Al plans to work them
but good, until Hawk cuts a deal with Big. ("You can always
cut a deal with Big.") If it will get them the afternoon off, Hawk
will shave off his floppy blond locks. In fact, he will let Al and Big
shave him bald.
So in the middle
of the ring, they scalp the boy. And he looks good. He has a good-shaped
head. When he starts bringing out his psycho persona, twitching and
glowering, he finally looks right. Unfortunately, it's only broken through
a part of his mental block, and not the one that's holding him back
in the ring.
Hawk has found his
look, but will he find his feet in the ring? Will it be in time? The
Tough Enough 2 Safari Spectacular continues next week.
