Smallville
Delete
original airdate: 01-28-04
Hello, class
-- Thanks for joining me, and I hope you all enjoyed Mr.
Goodson in my absence. Your quiz this week will be based
on "Delete," a brief synopsis of which is provided below for
those of you who didn't do your homework. Eyes on your own papers,
please.
Clark,
Lana and other Smallvillagers are infected by an email-based
virus that causes them to attack Chloe, who has lost her job
at the Daily Planet after defying Lionel Luthor.
At the
bottom of the mystery is an attractive computer hacker recently
'graduated' from the Summerholt mind control research facility,
possibly still under its control. Lana and Adam argue about
his secrecy, although he makes plans to stay in Smallville
in the apartment above the Talon. Lex tries to enlist the
Summerholt Institute's help to regain his recently wiped memories.
The
questions that follow are absolutely genuine. I'd love to
hear your answers, because I don't have the faintest clue
how the producers intended that episode to read. The developments
it suggests are unlikely at best (question 6) or impossible
at worst (essay #1). This show has very little internal consistency,
however, so I suppose anything could be possible.
1. T
or F: The catfight sequence between Lana and Chloe had
already gone on too long before it entered the girls' locker
room.
2. What
was the significance of Chloe giving her cousin's name, Lois
Lane, as a pseudonym?
a) We're going to meet Lois by May sweeps.
b) She will continue to use Lois as her professional name
and is therefore Clark's one true loooooooove.
c) Nothing; it was simply another dropped reference to appease
the fanboys.
3. T
or F: Clark should not fall victim to hypnotic or subliminal
messages hidden in his email; his Kryptonian physiology and
ability for superspeed ought to make him impervious to such
ploys.
4. Chloe
has now been endangered how many times?
a) 15
b) 35
c) Not enough to make her less stupid.
5. T
or F: Adam was being sarcastic when he said Lana and Clark
were too "comfortable" around each other to be "just friends."
6. Lex
will regain how much of his memory?
a) Enough to remember Clark's secret
b) Only enough to accuse Lionel of killing his parents
c) Nothing, because that kind of forward momentum might kill
the show.
7. T
or F: I did not remember Summerholt at all from its establishment
in Ryan.
Essay
Portion
Some have
posited the character of Adam as a Bruce Wayne stand-in; discuss
the ways in which this demonstrates the widely-held belief
that Superman is a weak character who needs the darker influences
of Batman to make him interesting, then refute those claims.
Present
at least three ways this show could do justice to the characters
of Jonathan, Martha, and Pete.
Extra
Credit: Why do all the men on this show wear so much blush?
Really,
seriously, I'd love an answer on that last one.
