The Venture Brothers Will Continue Venturing!
Despite the best efforts of the Guild of Calamitous Intent, the Venture Brothers will return! Jackson Publick announced on his blog today that he and Doc Hammer have negotiated with Adult Swim for two more seasons.
But wait, there's more! Their contract includes a full-length (or close to full-length) Venture Brothers special -- but Publick says that's all he can say. In his words, "...we don't have a clue yet."
And still more! They've been "...secretly working on an 11 minute Venture Brothers special" that will be on sometime this summer.
Cripes. After that incredible season finale, we here at Fanboy Planet feared it was over. We wouldn't have been happy, but the finale would have been an appropriate enough send-off.
For those puzzled by our excitement, and there might be a few of you, The Venture Brothers is a series on Adult Swim that started off as a sort of parody of the classic Hanna-Barbera Jonny Quest show, and then its scope became wider and wider. Now it includes all our childhoods with deadly accuracy, sharp wit and yet a very human undercurrent of wistfulness.
Let me just say that one of my happiest moments here at Fanboy Planet was getting Publick and Hammer to do a podcast sign-off for us -- and then they did it as recurring villains The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend. Suffice to say, I'm a fan. Doctor Who might be just above this show as my current favorite, but it's a very close call.
There are bigger problems in the world today, but somehow, knowing that we get moreVenture Brothers makes things a little bit brighter in our corner.
The timing of the announcement coincides with the release of the Fourth Season Blu-ray (or Fourth Season part two DVD), for no better reason, according to Publick, than "...Doc and I mouthed off about our big news all over the DVD commentaries, assuming when we recorded them in November/December that this would all be public knowledge by now."
I declare this a holiday, and am off to follow my own Amazon link. And thinking I might look pretty sharp in a speed suit...
