Grudge Match
Original U.S. Airdate - 03/11/06
Since
the events of Cat
and the Canary Roulette and her brood of Metabrawlers
have fallen on hard times. People just aren't willing to
pay to see no names like Catman and Shatterfist fight (at
least not until Gail Simone revamps them).
Meanwhile
at Legion headquarters, Lex is still working to bring his
imaginary friend Brainiac back to life from the last piece
of Brainiac scrap he has.
Just
as Sonar and Tala begin to ponder Luthor's sanity, Roulette
shows up and suggests a business arrangement between the
Legion and Metabrawl.
Elsewhere, Huntress
watches a weak and distracted Black Canary struggle to take
down a pickpocket. Even though Huntress isn't with the League
anymore, she worries about Black Canary and begins following
her.
Before long
Huntress finds herself in Roulette's Metabrawl stadium watching
Black Canary beat the snot out of fellow Justice League
member Fire. Just as Huntress finds out that Black Canary
is under some kind of mind control via her Justice League
communicator, Roulette shows up and locks them up in her
dungeon.
Later that night,
Roulette schedules a tag team bout with Black Canary and
the Huntress taking on Vixen and Hawkgirl. Who is the special
guest referee, you ask? Wonder Woman.
As
much as the action hungry horny male part of me enjoyed
this episode, it lacked a deep, meaningful or logical --
what's the word? -- plot of any kind. I'm all for any excuse
for the hot babes of the DCU to go at it like cats in heat,
but I like a little more meat with my potatoes.
Sonar
turns out to be the one behind the mind control which, unless
Derek says otherwise, isn't one of his powers. That's more
of Mad Hatter's modus operandi, and really, superheroines
fighting while wearing Easter Bonnets would totally have
made the episode. Unfortunately, JLU can't use
any Bat-villains, which is one reason the Joker hasn't joined
the Legion of Doom.
The
Question's cameo was nice but two great jokes were the most
he got in before the girl on girl action resumed.
Maybe
it's a sign that I'm getting older or maybe the writers
have set the bar too high, but this episode left me wanting
more than it delivered. Then again, when Vixen told Hawkgirl
to keep Wonder Woman busy so she could "take her from behind,"
that was hot.
