The Great Brain Robbery
Original U.S. Airdate - 03/04/06
It's just another
Freaky Friday for the Legion of Doom as Lex Luthor
ponders how to reconstitute Brainiac from the only piece
of him left. Tala suggests they pick their recently disposed
leader Gorilla Grodd's brain to see if he has any answers.
Grodd is unwilling to cooperate and tells Luthor to go ape
himself. Tala comes up with another brilliant idea and tells
Lex they should use mind reading technology to crack the
monkey's nut.
Back at the
JLU watchtower, Mr. Terrific, Green Lantern, Red Tornado,
Dr. Fate and Flash discuss Grodd's super powered team of
bad guys and what to do about it. Mr. Terrific suggests
that Dr. Fate tap into Flash's brain and use any traces
left by Grodd when Grodd took over Flash's mind to locate
him. Dr. Fate agrees thinking "what could possibly go wrong?"
In a cosmic
coincidence that only happens in comics, movies, television,
books, cartoons and email scams, both sets of heroes and
villains begin poking around in each others brains using
magic and technology. After they Dream a Little Dream
of each other, the whole thing backfires and Luthor's brain
ends up in Flash's body and Vice Versa.
Dr. Fate quickly
figures out what's happened, but not before Luthor superspeeds
off to cause havoc in the Watchtower. Flash on the other
hand ends up in Luthor's body right in the middle of a power
struggle between Luthor and Dr. Polaris.
All of Me
enjoyed this episode. I felt 18 Again! watching it.
The only way I could have enjoyed it more is if I was somehow
The Man With Two Brains.
While
the larger Legion of Doom vs. the JLU plot didn't get much
in the way of advancement, The Great Brain Robbery
used a common plot device in order to setup some unique
one liners and intriguing plot twists.
Dr.
Polaris: "You going to wash your hands?"
Flash as Luthor: "No. ...Cause I'm evil..."
Lex made a much
better Flash than Flash made a Luthor, but Flash gets points
for getting laid. Tala seemed almost heartbroken once Luthor
and Flash made the Switch back to their own bodies.
We do learn
in this episode that Luthor wants to bring back his one
time body roommate Brainiac and Luthor learns Flash's secret
identity even if he's not sure who it is. I'd lay money
that that fact becomes a plot point if JLU is renewed for
another season.
Somehow
Clancy Brown, the voice of Lex Luthor, is able to mimic
the voice of Michael Rosenbaum, the voice of Flash, amazingly
well. He deserves honorable mention for that talent. Rosenbaum,
on the other hand, gets to give voice to Lex Luthor, his
character on Smallville -- played in the upcoming
Superman Returns by Kevin Spacey, who Rosenbaum imitates
in order to voice Deadshot. I'm guessing that was the source
of the idea behind this entire episode.
The
Great Brain Robbery was a nice change of pace from last
week's stroll down memory lane that worked for some and
not for others. It managed to be accessible for all ages
of comic book fans and deliver fast paced action at the
same time.
