Justice
League Unlimited
Alive!
Original U.S. Airdate - 05/06/06
Busy
in his workshop, Lex Luthor tries once again to revive Brainiac
from the last known piece of Brainiscrap.
When
his attempts fail, Tala offers to give it a shot using her
hokey religion. Together they view Brainiac's final moments
as he explodes. Lex realizes there must be other Brainiscraps
out there and begins using the stars to plot their probable
location.
Once
Lex plots his course, he gets the Legion of Do…I mean The
Secret Society to begin building a starship. Lex pushes
the villainous lackeys to the brink with his Darth Vader-like
management skills, which of course rubs his girl toy Tala
the wrong way. (Please recall that apparently the Flash
knows how to rub her the right way.)
Before long, Tala is back in bed with the
monkey (I assume only figuratively, for now) with her former
master Gorilla Grodd. After escaping from his prison cell,
Grodd leads a mutiny against Luthor and his loyalists all
while flying through space in their newly christened interstellar
headquarters.
Hot villain on villain action breaks out
for the next 20 minutes. Was it wrong for me to have an
erection during this sequence? If it was, who the hell are
you to judge?
Luthor
comes out on top after defeating Tala and sending Grodd
into the vacuum of space. Tala gets strapped into some machinery
which Lex will use to reassemble Brainiac from floating
space particles (I guess).
Just
before Lex throws the switch, Metron, that time-traveling
New Genesis-living harbinger of the DCU (not to be confused
with Harbinger) arrives to issue warnings all around.
Lex says beat it and fires up the Brainiac
Assemblotron 3000.
Somewhere in time and space, Metron gets
the last laugh as instead of bringing Brainiac back to life,
Darkseid returns from the dark side.
He offers a quick tip of the hat and then
blows up the Society HQ.
Not
much to review this week as this episode was in large part
all setup for the big final episode next week, but what
action there was, was kick ass. I could watch villains fight
all day and often have.
It was a little disappointing to realize
that the final showdown won't be a JLU vs. the Secret Society
match, but rather a tag team match of JLU & the Society
vs. Darkseid and the armies of Apokolips. The plot twist
was surprising and welcome, but I would have liked to see
Lex and Superman go head to head rather than hand in hand.
I assume
next week we will learn more about how Darkseid came to
be reborn and what how everyone escaped an exploding starship,
but for now we are left with a huge cliffhanger and eager
anticipation. Truly the hallmark of Justice League Unlimited.
Tune
in next week for the final episode. Bring your tissues.
