Doctor Who
Series Six, Part One

Would that we could pop in our TARDIS and purchase blu-rays from the future. Then we would have a complete Series Six for the good Doctor.

Alas, we only have half a season, but for fans, waiting until 2012 to have these would have been too much. Seven episodes and two supplemental features round out this two-disc set from BBC-America. It does seem like it's missing Doctor Who Confidential, but I don't know if the BBC still produces those. Perhaps "Part Two" will backload those on, and we'll gladly have them.

The episodes we have here have included some of the best of the Doctor Who revival. Luckily, we've reviewed all of them here on Fanboy Planet, so we can break them down for you here --

Episode 1: "The Impossible Astronaut"

This episode finally unveils the "Big Bad" of Series Five, The Silents. They're disturbing. They're frightening. And they're the focus of the "Monster File" included on the first disc. They're not quite so scary and disturbing when you see them as prosthetic masks in high defintion. Almost harmless, really. No, not really. They're still disturbing.

Episode 2: "Day of the Moon"

A great episode, but one you cannot watch in an exhausted state. Plus, it makes Nixon into a tragic hero.

Episode 3: "Curse of the Black Spot"

Your enjoyment of pirate stories may differ from Drew Simchik's.

Episode 4: "The Doctor's Wife"

Neil Gaiman's episode makes owning this blu-ray completely worthwhile in and of itself.

Episode 5: "The Rebel Flesh"

Who's not a fan of Dusty Springfield? Plus, this springboards the second disc Monster File on The Flesh.

Episode 6: "The Almost People"

Ah, so that's what's been going on. We may not be convinced.

Episode 7: "A Good Man Goes To War"

Mysteries resolved, new ideas introduced... and then we have to wait.

So until Part 2, this will be a well-loved set.
