Knights of Badassdom At Last?
Entertainment One offered us this announcement teaser, promising that the long-awaited (for us, anyway) Knights of Badassdom will be released through TUGG on January 21. (That's the system in which fans can arrange for screenings at their local theaters.) That will be followed by a VOD release on February 11.
We saw footage from this three summers ago at Comic-Con 2011, and were pretty excited by the premise. Joe Lynch (co-star of Holliston on Fearnet) directed this tale of LARPers running across an actual succubus, and it had a cast that I thought must have killed on the material: Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, Summer Glau, and the inimitable Peter Dinklage; admittedly not featured much in the footage but on panel was Danny Pudi, then white-hot from Community.
Something happened, and it looked like Knights of Badassdom was on its way to just being lost, and then rumor had it that producers had wrested the movie away from Lynch and done their own cut. According to Bleeding Cool, that's what this one is.
It's unfortunate, because I'd gotten the chance to talk to Lynch the year after, and it's obvious this was a passion project and should have been just insanely fun. This teaser really does not give much of a sense of plot at all, just premise, and that makes me a little nervous. And Pudi isn't mentioned at all. Perhaps someday we'll see Lynch's cut, but we'll have to make do with this one for now.
