Planet Buzz Today's Date:

He's a Cool Exec With a Heart of Steel

He knows the darkness of Tony Stark's soul.
Aint It Cool News got it first. Jon Favreau confirmed it on his MySpace page. The trades have broken it. So we must acknowledge it.

Marvel Studios has gotten back on track with one of those perfect casting choices that you can't believe it's actually happening. They have their Iron Man -- and it's Robert Downey, Jr.

One of the best actors of his generation, and that's not hyperbole, Downey needs something like this to boost himself back out of the realm of tabloid stories and onto the A List of Hollywood actors where he absolutely belongs.

Even in his darkest days of drugs and utter stupidity, this guy made any project he was in watchable. Don't believe me? Check out his strange guest-stint on Ally McBeal of all things. His charisma blew everyone else away, and when he left the show, so did a lot of viewers.

The right choice? Oh, yeah. With Favreau directing, this could be a dynamite combination of sensibilities and instincts. Even if you don't like Iron Man as a character, and there are some that don't, especially after Civil War, this movie should be as idea-filled as it is action-filled. And really, that's what we want in a superhero movie.

On his MySpace group, Favreau enthused, "I am about as excited as I can be. "I saw what he can do and he is extremely enthusiastic about playing Stark. I can say with absolute certainty that there is no better choice. The humor and emotional dimension he brings truly raises the bar on this project. Get ready."

Thank you, Marvel. Thank you.
