Glen Keane's "Duet"
Glen Keane has been on my mind this week after reading Ron Suskind's book Life, Animated, which has a moment of Keane and Suskind's son Owen meeting in Burbank and discussing the importantce of hand-drawn animation.
After decades of being a jewel in Disney's crown, animator Glen Keane struck off on his own, with the intention of truly exploring the art form without having to be quite so beholden to commercial concerns. And heck, Tangled was a pretty good swan song -- for now -- with Disney. (Perhaps someday he will return.)
Watch his latest hand-drawn effort, "Duet." You have to think Walt himself would have loved this. But more importantly, yes sir, Mr. Keane, you are an artist, and we thank you.
