Planet Buzz Today's Date:

The New Harry Osborn

Tweeted by Marc Webb

In a sign of the changing times, we have today's casting news direct by Twitter!

Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb tweeted the casting for Harry Osborn in the sequel to the Amazing Reboot, which I'm still betting on being called Spectacular Spider-Man. Adding a number just seems so gauche, and Sony hasn't officially offered a title besides The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel..

Anyway, the actor is Dane DeHaan, who had major roles in Chronicle and Lawless. Though the name might not be household yet, a quick check at his resume over the last year shows a guy quietly becoming one of those "it" actors every casting director loves.

Allegedly Webb will guide DeHaan into being a dark and edgy Harry Osborn, instead of the handsome and flashy take various animated versions have done. Guys, let's go back to the source material -- here's a guy with serious father issues, considered weak and mostly worthless by the overbearing (and still uncast) Norman Osborn.

All I'd really ask at this point is please, please, please don't automatically turn him into the Green Goblin. I absolutely agree that Harry Osborn should be in the mix, but not as Peter Parker's uncomprehending rich friend. He should be that foil that shows Peter that the teenage years are hard for everybody.

At least Sony does seem to be holding off on Norman Osborn himself, and so far the only villain announced is Electro, so maybe they won't make the mistake of packing the movie with too many villains.

The Amazing Spider Sequel is currently scheduled for release May 4, 2014. We have hopes it will have a title of its own by then.
