Booster Gold To Boost Syfy?

Eric Martsolf in Smallville.

Okay. It's not quite the way I had it pegged, but after Booster Gold appeared in the 10th (and last) season of Smallville, it made absolute sense that the character could and should hold his own television show.

His appearance with Clark Kent marked the closest connection between comics page and television that the series had done, and it begged for more Booster. I thought more spin-off with Blue Beetle, but that was not to be.

However, NBCUniversal sort of agrees, and according to the Hollywood Reporter has solicited a Booster Gold pilot from Berlanti Productions.

The pilot will be written by Fringe's Andrew Kreisberg, who worked with executive producer Greg Berlanti on Eli Stone. Berlanti himself should be familiar to fans as he created last year's ABC superhero series No Ordinary Family and was one of the screenwriters on Green Lantern.

The Reporter's description sounds very much in line with the comics incarnation, calling Booster Gold

"... a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present."

Let me suggest right here and now that Syfy should at least consider daytime drama actor Eric Martsolf, who played Booster Gold in Smallville. He hit every right note on the character and should be given the chance to continue in the role. Syfy may be looking to go younger, but the guy was just so good.
