Before
You Die, You Read This Comic
This
is news guaranteed to get staffer Mishal Samman all verklempt.
(It's not that hard to do, granted.)
But
it's actually got me a little interested. For those watching
Adult Swim, you've probably picked up on what the heck is
making Trigun so popular. But knowing that Ringu is coming
-- well, Dark Horse is riding two waves on this one, and they
can only hope it translates into good sales.
In conjunction
with Digital Manga, Dark Horse Comics is proud to present
for the first time in English three of the most successful
and popular manga titles of recent times: The Ring, Trigun,
and Hellsing.
THE RING
The Ring,
a Japanese multi-media frenzy based on the best-selling horror
novels by Koji Suzuki, has already made its way to America
in both a Western adaptation
of the film, and an equally popular dubbed Japanese version.
Dark Horse Comics in conjunction with Digital Manga will publish
the English translation in the increasingly popular "non-Western"
format, meaning readers will get a kick out of reading from
the back of the book to the front.
For those
who love their media in comic book form, they'll also love
seeing this creepy tidbit panel to panel. For those who love
film, this collection will give them the opportunity to find
out why filmmakers idolize comics.
The Ring
Volume One features story by Hiroshi Takahashi and art by
Misao Inagaki. It arrives in stores November with a retail
price of $14.95.
TRIGUN
It's a
western, it's sci-fi, it's punk, and it's popular. It's Trigun
and it's become one of the most popular anime in America.
Cartoon Network is currently showing the Trigun anime as part
of their Adult Swim programming. But before it was animated,
it was manga and now Dark Horse and Digital Manga are bringing
it to America for the first time!
Vash is
a nice guy, but everyone wants to kill him. An enigma of a
man with a coat full of bullet holes, he's widely feared because
of the destruction left in his wake. And he's also highly
valued for the price on his head. But he's no easy man to
kill. Of course, that doesn't stop people from trying. What's
his mission? Where's he from? This volume just may have the
answers to those questions, and more!
Continuing
our foray into the world of non-Westernized manga publishing,
Trigun promises to be entertaining with its huge guns, signature
characters, wild shoot-em-up action, and funny writing. Volume
One features story and art by Yasuhiro Nightow and arrives
in stores this November with a retail price of $14.95.
HELLSING
Hellsing
is coming to America, thanks to Dark Horse Comics and the
folks at Digital Manga. The manga sensation brings readers
smart-ass gore and action, as only Japan seems to produce,
in the "non-Western" format. The night is dark,
but at least those wacky anti-heroes from Hellsing can make
light of it!
There's
a secret organization somewhere in England created to defend
the Queen and country from monsters of all sorts. Enter Hellsing,
an agency, long in tooth, with the experience, know-how, and
equipment to handle the problems that arise when vampires,
ghouls, and the like take on these dark forces. What equipment?
How about another vampire and a big pistol loaded with special
silver bullets? That ought to do the trick. But what really
knocks 'em dead is the sharp wit, awesome artwork, and crazy,
bloody action that makes up this manga sensation!
Hellsing
volume one features story and art by Kouta Hirano and arrives
in stores this December with a retail price of $13.95.
