All-New X-Men #18:
Switching Sides And Loving It

With the fall out from the recent “Battle Of The Atom” just beginning, “All-New X-Men #18” features the first paradigm shift of the new X-Verse.

Our original X-Men- displaced from their own time thanks to the ignorant optimism of the current Hank McCoy- switched sides in the ongoing X-Schism, and have followed “Professor” Kitty Pryde to join Cyclops’ team.

Brian Michael Bendis treats his run with the X-Men as a love letter to the Claremont Era, but with all the trappings of a modern book. There is love and angst and humor and drama… but also the dark sensibilities of the modern Marvel U.

And no one pencils all of this better than Stuart Immonen. The team’s home, hidden in the wilderness of the mountains, has the fun tech that you would expect of a super hero (villain?) base and also the lush scenery of a winter hide out high atop the Canadian mountains. But he also superbly conveys all of the various and complex emotions the characters experience throughout the book. And this team, together, make me care about a young Bobby Drake, and I didn’t think that was possible.

Altogether, “All-New X-Men #18” is a great next step in the MARVEL NOW story of the X-Men, and is Earth-2 Northridge’s Pick Of The Week.

Kris Koller works at Earth-2 Comics Northridge, 8967 Reseda Blvd. in Northridge, California, always happy to help you find the book you're looking for. You can also venture into Earth-2 Comics at 15017 Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks.

As always, look to your local comics shop for the books discussed here on Fanboy Planet -- Earth-2 in Sherman Oaks and Northridge, The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach, Illusive Comics & Games in Santa Clara, Hijinx Comics in Willow Glen would all be great places, and many do mail-order business.
