never deflates for a guy.

Tough Enough 3
original
airdate: 10-24-02
Two days.
That's all it took. The producers and trainers revamped the
whole selection process to try to prevent this season of Tough
Enough contestants from dropping out, and on the second
day of training, it was all for naught.
Despite
saying she wouldn't quit only the evening before, Jill dropped
out on the second day of training. She wasn't doing badly,
not that we saw, at least not unforgiveably so - it was after
all, only the second day. Her mouth was still hurting
and bleeding from her wisdom tooth removal, but that really
wasn't what did her in, either.
And I
hope every single person in the house, at Trax and on the
production staff blames Jonah for her departure.
As was
briefly referenced in the casting special, Jonah and Jill
had a bit of a "thing" while they were in Boston, despite
Jonah having a girlfriend. They continue to flirt throughout
the first few days at the house, even rooming together and
holding hands on their way to a birthday dinner for Big, but
there's something Jill doesn't know.
The guys
pressure Jonah into telling Jill about the girlfriend thing
(both that he had one when they had their "thing" and that
he's still got one now); Eric chuckles and calls Jonah a "meatball,"
which endears him to me instantly. And once she hears the
news, she just … deflates.
It's
amazing to watch. For all her physical toughness, for working
through the pain of stitches in her gums, and it's one guy
who destroys her. A big moronic meatball. To be fair, it may
have been something else. There may have been something we
didn't see. But I doubt it.
I'd also
like to thank the producers for putting up titles at the start
of each day, indicating what day of training it is. I hope
it cuts down on the timeline confusion; without it, I'd have
assumed Jill had been there at least a week.
The trainers
and the other contestants are all allowed to say something
to her before she leaves, but it's Big who really rips into
her. He's ashamed and embarrassed that he let himself be duped
by her, that he dismissed other, possibly more worthy candidates
to let her in, and he can barely hide his anger. Al Snow insists
that no one feel sorry for Jill, that she's wasted too much
of their time already, and she departs with her head held
remarkably high.
It's
not inconceivable that they could bring in another contestant
at this point to take her place, but there's no indication
of that for next week. What there is, is more of Scott.
Scott
is going to be an interesting feature of this cast. He's young,
he's not very good in the ring yet - in fact he nearly lands
on Bill during a forward bump - he's not a quick study, he's
completely lacking in social graces, he pees with the door
open and everyone in the house is getting annoyed with him
right quick.
In addition
to the casting process, the set up of the house is a bit different
this year as well. It's much bigger, for one, and the rooms
are set up for only two people. This leads to more than a
few co-ed pairings (one of which was Jonah and Jill) which
doesn't exactly fly with some of the more conservative contestants.
Though
we haven't seen much of the training, the in-ring stuff looks
to be progressing at the same rate. No idea yet what the supplemental
training will be, if we'll see a return to the beachside confidence
course or what, but it seems overall, the more things change,
the more they stay the same.
