Raw Thoughts
You've got to hand it to the WWF. They managed to keep the fired Alliance
members off television for a whole 8 days. Raw last night did continue
to show that the WWF is trying to bring the "Attitude" back to their
programming. From the bra and panties match with Trish and Stacy to
the bare assed Vince McMahon, Raw was definitely interesting. Rob Van
Dam, Edge and Test all had good matches with an enjoyable main event.
I could have done without the William Regal pissing on Big Show angle,
but that's just the kind of goldenshoweraphobe I am. Overall it wasn't
quite the blockbuster that last week's show was (tough to top the return
of Flair and Lawler), but still an enjoyable show.
Smackdown Thoughts
Took Friday off so I never got to talk about what I thought of Smackdown.
Let's see…did anything happen besides the gravy bowl match with Trish
and Stacy? I don't remember.
WWF Still Planning
a Separate Promotion Split
In a recent interview Vince McMahon discussed his plans to launch WCW
as a separate promotion. "We haven't decided when to yet. We just have
to get beyond Survivor Series. It will be after that, perhaps right
after Rumble." Linda McMahon followed those comments up in her quarterly
earning report conference call by saying that the establishment of a
separate brand should begin to take shape over the next two weeks of
television shows. She couldn't reveal too much about the launch of the
separate brand without revealing future storylines. "The development
of the second brand hasn't gone as quickly as we had hoped they would"
(translation: no one gave a rat's ass about WCW or the Alliance.) "Sometimes
you're sharper creatively than at others," she said. "It's happened
before and it will happen again." But she did say that things were getting
back on track. "Everything is back under the WWF banner. But if you
watch the next two weeks, the storylines and (separate) brand development
will become clearer." She said there would be a splitting of the WWF
roster in coming weeks that will result in additional PPVs and perhaps
100 new live events next year. They also plan to do tours overseas at
least once per quarter.

Vince McMahon also
mentioned that either Raw or Smackdown will remain a WWF show, but the
other will become a show linked with the new brand. "You can catch up
on what you missed on Thursday if you don't watch on Monday. If we split
the talent, then viewers would have to watch both shows to (see all of
their favorites)." Hopefully the WWF can distinguish the two different
brands to satisfy both the wrestling fans and the sports entertainment
fans. Let's pray they do not try to satisfy the golden shower fans. One
thing to notice is that no one is calling the new brand WCW and with the
WCW world title being unified into the WWF title on December 9th, it's
safe to say the new brand will not be the same as the old.
Mr. T Returns
Mr. T. appeared briefly on last Monday's RAW, just sitting in the front
row...but he will also appear in a more active capacity on some upcoming
broadcast. He did a backstage vignette with the APA, slated to air sometime
in the next few weeks. I would gladly take a golden shower if all of
this leads to a Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper rematch at Wrestlemania X-8.
Bye Bye Brian
Adams and Dave Taylor
After an unsuccessful return to the WWF and a brief stint teaching in
the WWF developmental territory, Bryan Adams has been released by the
WWF. The former Kronik tag team member had the remainder of his contract
bought out. Maybe Adams can reunite with Hulk Hogan in XWF and he can
be Hogan's Hawaiian buddy "Crush" again. At this point, it is said to
be an isolated case but rumors continue to swirl around the business
that massive talent cuts will take place in early 2002.
Another sign of
talent cut backs could be the release of Dave Taylor. Taylor had been
working in a training capacity with the HWA and OVW and the WWF had
asked him to move to Cincinnati to reduce the cost of flying him in
to work with the talent. Taylor's wife is a prominent executive with
Taco Bell, so he refused the move and thus has parted ways with the
WWF.
Flair Speaks
Ric Flair was a guest on Charlotte radio last week. He discussed the
details of his meeting with Vince and the buyout of his Time Warner
contract. He wasn't contacted by the WWF until November 9th. He didn't
have a contract until last Monday afternoon (hours before his debut).
"I actually got a little emotional. I had to get a grip. I love the
fans. I do. I always have. And that was (his Raw debut) one of the top
three or four moments in my career." Flair mentioned that he would not
be traveling as much as most other wrestlers and hinted that he would
only do this for a couple of years.
Given the opportunity,
he would like the opportunity to wrestle The Rock and Kurt Angle before
retiring. He wrestled Steve Austin back in the early 90's several times
but would do it again. Flair signed a three-year deal with the WWF and
plans to wrestle again, not just play a speaking role in a suit. "I
think in two or three months I'll wrestle again," he says. "It'll take
me that long to get in shape."
Chyna's Stage
Debut Canceled
The theatrical production of "My Darling Judith" at the The Living Arts
Centre outside of Toronto, Canada has been cancelled. The show was scheduled
to open on 12/18 for a three-night run and would have been Joanie "Chyna"
Laurer's official stage debut as an actor. "Due to circumstances beyond
our control, Birdcage must postpone our current production of My Darling
Judith. There are no words to describe the support that Joanie Laurer
has given Birdcage Productions. She is a true talent and a true friend.
I hope to continue production on this project in the near future." Anyone
holding tickets for the production may return them to the Living Arts
Centre's box office for full refunds and a golden shower.
Fear Factor
For those of you still craving more of the former WWF champion, Chyna
will be one of the stars on tonight's celebrity episode of Fear Factor.
Other celebs include Kelly Preston, David Hasselhoff, Coolio, Brooke
Burns, and Donny Osmond. Challenges include a maggot bath and a golden
shower.
No Outsiders
Return?
The WWF and Kevin Nash and Scott Hall have no future negotiations planned
at this time. As I've previously reported, there is a difference between
how many dates the WWF wants the pair to work each month, reported to
be 15, and how many Hall and Nash want to work, rumored to be about
12. In addition, the WWF offered downside guarantees of $500,000 to
each of the wrestlers, a figure both consider to be as low as a golden
shower. Still, most expect the problems to be solved by January, when
both men will be able to return to the WWF. Personally I think Hall
and Nash got a little too used to those big fat checks they got from
Time Warner and Eric Bischoff. It's time to rejoin the real world and
have to earn those big bucks.
Guerrero Returns
Former WWF star Eddie Guerrero will work this Friday night for Impact
Championship Wrestling in Queens, New York, at the infamous Elks Lodge.
His opponent has yet to be named but hey, Chyna doesn't have a job in
the WWF anymore. They should reunite for the Mamacita World Tour 2001.
This will be Guerrero's first match since being released after personal
issues and golden shower with the WWF.
RVD Busts Booker
Gosh, it's been weeks since Rob Van Dam accidentally busted someone
open with a stray move. Booker T suffered a cut above his eye and a
possible concussion after taking a "Vandaminator" in a match at Sunday's
Tulsa house show. Booker joins Test, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and
Steve Austin as WWF wrestlers who have been busted open in RVD matches.
Jericho (2) and Angle (3) have been cut in more than one RVD match.
I suppose a concussion from Rob Van Dam is better than an RVD golden
shower.
Foley on Millionaire
Soon to be former WWF star, Mick Foley, will be on a special celebrity
edition of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" tonight on ABC at 8pm. The
show is a special charity episode to benefit victims of the September
11th terrorist attacks. Other celebrities on the show include William
Baldwin, Shannon "Casting Couch" Elizabeth, Eve, Kevin "Golden Shower"
Bacon and others.
That's it for today's
golden shower themed Chairshots. Join me Friday for more wrestling news,
a brand new Book It and a lengthy discussion about the "Hot Carl."
