Triple
H injured at Survivor Series
Triple H was taken to the hospital following the main event
at Survivor Series on Sunday. He commented on the injury on
WWE.com early yesterday.
“When
Rob Van Dam hit me with the Frogsplash off the top of the
cage, his knee went across my throat. It caused swelling on
the inside of my throat, which closed my airway down. I don't
know the percentage, but they (the medical staff) said your
throat's normally at two, and it was at less than one...
They needed
to keep me overnight because they were afraid that if it swelled
anymore, my airway would close off, and before I would be
able to tell anybody, I wouldn't be able to breathe and I
could die.”
“While
they were making sure that didn't happen, they were also trying
to find out whether or not I had torn my trachea, which, if
I did, I couldn't drink or swallow. I basically sat bloody
in the hospital with my gear on until about eleven or noon
today (Monday.) I was still in my gear. I was still covered
in blood with confetti on my back."
H is under
doctors' orders to not wrestle for at least 10 days. Once
the swelling goes down they will reassess his condition. Doctors
do not currently believe that there is any structural damage.
Raw
Thoughts
One of the biggest complaints about Raw lately is that it
has become the “Triple H Show.” Due to his injury he was unable
to be at the taping last night and not able to appear in every
other segment.
If last
night’s show is an example of what Raw without Triple H is
going to be like, then I don’t expect that Triple H will be
getting any get well cards in the immediate future. I feel
bad for any wrestler that sustains an injury, but a Raw without
Triple H is a damn enjoyable thing.
The WWE
wanted to send a message to wrestling fans last night with
their show. They wanted to let us know that with the title
change at Survivor Series comes a change in the attitude of
the show.
Shawn
Michaels came out with his new title and proclaimed that there
wouldn’t be any necrophilia angles during his reign. Apparently
with Shawn it’s all going to be about the wrestling, which
is what it should be. Three contenders wanted a shot at the
belt, a match was made and won. Now a title match will be
held on Raw next week. Yes, RAW creative team, it really is
that simple. I give them two weeks before they screw it all
up and Shawn is humping a llama for ratings.
If I’ve
followed this correctly, Smackdown traded D-Von, Bautista
and Ivory to Raw in exchange for the Big Show. Boy, did Smackdown
get screwed over in that deal. Ivory‘s “creatively ventilated“
pants are worth two Big Shows alone.
Chris
Nowinski took on Al Snow for what seems like the 10th time
but is in fact only the second. I still don’t buy Nowinski’s
“Harvard” character. I know he’s an ass in real life because
I watched Tough Enough 1. That’s enough to make me dislike
him. The snooty Harvard graduate gimmick is just so over the
top corny that it’s painfully boring to watch.
As often
as the WWE claims to have moved into the reality era, they
still have a ton of throwback old school gimmicks that stick
out like sore thumbs. Speaking of Lance Storm…
I wasn’t
sure who to feel more sorry for in the Lance Storm & William
Regal vs. Tommy Dreamer & Jeff Hardy tag match. On one hand
you have Storm & Regal who both have talent but have failed
to spark any fans' interest. On the other hand you have Dreamer
and Hardy who have seemingly passed their prime. Dreamer has
been little more than dark match material since ECW folded
and Jeff Hardy’s singles career has run out of gas so he’s
once again wallowing in the tag team ranks.
Even worse
for Jeff is that his “less talented” brother Matt has finally
found a gimmick on Smackdown that’s gotten him over with the
fans. The only positive aspect of this match was that all
the boring wrestlers were grouped together during the show
rather than spreading them throughout.
Was an
actual match on Raw made because one female wrestler bit the
fingernail off another female wrestler, or did I just dream
that?
No one
has e-mailed me to tell me that I’ve been right for weeks,
so I have to do it myself and say, “I told you so.”
After
failing to break out as singles stars, the WWE reunited D-Von
and Bubba Ray on Raw last night to reform the Dudley Boys.
The crowd went apeshit and I’d just like to take this opportunity
to pat myself on the back for calling that one about two months
ago. Their Raw re-debut did leave me wondering about the logic
of having them win at both the PPV and at Raw the next night
over 3-Minute Warning. Does this mean that the push for 3-Minute
Warning is over?
It’s
been weeks since Kane’s career took a nose dive with the Katie
Vick angle. We can now look back and see that no good came
from it. The feud didn’t earn the company any money or ratings.
Triple H and Kane aren't more popular with the fans now. It
now appears that Kane is going to be fodder for Batista’s
push.
I think
I mentioned in a Book It that Glen Jacobs has the luxury of
taking off the Kane suit and starting fresh in the WWE as
a new character. Now may a good time to do that. He can always
go back to being Kane after fans have forgotten about his
recent tribulations.
Batista
has a good look for a wrestler and I’m hoping that his involvement
with Ric Flair is just setting the stage for a Four Horsemen
reunion.
As compensation
for being thrown around by the big boys during the main event
at Survivor Series, the junior main eventers got to have a
#1 contender’s match. Booker T, Rob Van Damn and Chris Jericho
all have their merits but I’d be willing to bet that Rob was
given the win solely based on the RVD vs. HBK aspect. Poor
Booker gave a speech about being ignored in the WWE last night
only to lose in the main event. Breaks my little heart to
see the man holding him down.
Lesnar
Update
Despite a broken rib and a torn ligament in his left knee,
Brock Lesnar is only taking a week off to rest. Lesnar is
currently scheduled to return to working house shows following
Thanksgiving. This just adds to my befuddlement over having
Lesnar drop the title to Big Show. Maybe Show has naked photos
of someone.
Naked
photos are always a pleasant note to end on. I’ll be out of
town for the rest of the week but we will try to have a guest
Chairshots writer filling in for me on Friday. I’ll be back
next Tuesday as usual. Until then…
