Every Tuesday and Friday we give you the scoop on
what's happening in and out of the wrestling ring. Somedays it's even

Raw Thoughts
They had me until Margaritaville.
Stone Cold and The
Rock ended Raw with a 20 minute…thing. It started out innocently enough
with The Rock calling out Austin. They exchanged words and catchphrases.
Then somehow Austin was singing to Rock, Rock sang back and then they
did a duet of Margaritaville.
I don't mind a
little comedy in my wrestling. Up until Margaritaville I enjoyed it.
But what does any of that have to do with the PPV this weekend? Stone
Cold and The Rock aren't fighting each other. Couldn't those 20 minutes
have been better spent adding heat to an undercard match? Oh wait, until
an hour before that, there were no undercard matches!
The rest of the
show was a mixed bag. Taker and RVD showed they can brawl with the best
of them while Tazz got punked out in minutes by Austin. The WWF seemingly
set the stage for WCW to go away this Sunday by having most of the belts
that WCW members held change hands to WWF members. The Dudleys are apparently
a s****y tag team now because they couldn't beat Scotty 2 Hotty and
Grand Master Albert. Mick Foley cut an awesome and very honest promo
about the sad state of the WWF, but what good did it accomplish other
than to alert the last remaining clueless WWF fans that the WWF is up
to their ass in troubles? It was an entertaining show, but it didn't
benefit anyone and really didn't help boost sales for Sunday's PPV.
Ratings
WWF Raw scored a 4.1 rating last night on TNN, with hours of 4.0 and
4.2. This is slightly up from last week's 4.0.
Latino Heat,
Its Been Nice Knowing You
Eddie Guerrero, who had been off WWF television while in rehab, was
busted Friday morning for drunk driving with property damage. Guerrero
crashed his car into a gate at an apartment building at 3:20am. He failed
two breath tests and got arrested then released after posting bail.
No one was injured in the crash. The car caused $500 damage to the gate.
As a result, Eddie was let go by the WWF Monday night. Vince apparently
personally made the call to release him from his contract. Since he's
no longer under contract, he will not be attending the television tapings
for HVW (the WWF developmental territory) on Wednesday.
You can't fault
the WWF for this one. They kept supporting Eddie while he was in rehab
for months and then one month after getting out, he's busted for DUI.
I blame the mullet. The good news is that you can now catch Eddie Guerrero
vs. Jake the Snake at a local high school gym near you.
Ross Report
Jim Ross weighed in with his weekly Ross Report last Friday. It was
mostly a list of who's injured and what their current status is. Let's
take a look at what he had to report: Injury Update:
The Rock: Injured
his elbow Monday on RAW via chair shot from Y2J. Not considered to be
serious.
Rhyno: Surgery
to repair herniated disk went well, including bone fusion to stabilize
the affected area. Recovery/return time estimated to be 6 months - 1
year.
Kanyon: ACL surgery
a success. Rehab to take 4-6 months.
Taka: Shoulder
surgery a success. Rehab to take 4-6 months.
X-Pac: Waiting
to speak with the surgeon who operated on his neck. MRI did not show
a new injury. Will not return to work until his surgeon evaluates X-Pac's
condition.
Scotty 2 Hotty:
Will eventually need neck surgery but not at this time as there is no
risk for him to continue to compete at this time. Will be re-evaluated
in 4-6 weeks.
Stone Cold: Got
the stitches (18) removed from above his eye Wednesday in Texas. Working
through lower back pain, also.
William Regal:
Training/working through minor bicep tear. No surgery required.
Hugh Morrus: Experiencing
shoulder soreness. Will receive an MRI in next few weeks to check it
out.
Chris Benoit: Will
see his surgeon, Dr. Youngblood, next week for evaluation and an update.
Rehab progressing well.
Triple H: Continues
to rehab in Birmingham. If the healing continues to go well, HHH could
return as early as December or it could be January.
Rikishi: Working
on conditioning and strengthening his shoulder. Looks like a December
return, but that could change.
Bob Holly: Looks
great and is pain free. Waiting the go-ahead to intensify his rehab.
Still months away from returning.
Jerry Lynn: Sees
his doctor again on November 16 and should be released by end of December
from patella surgery.Mike
Awesome Injured
Mike Awesome suffered a knee injury at Saturday's house show in Cleveland,
OH against the Big Show. Awesome worked Sunday night's show in Hartford,
but the match went less than a minute, probably due to the injury. It's
time to put the little fella down.
Booker T, You
are…an idiot
The WWF stars were on The Weakest Link last night and they didn't exactly
prove themselves to me mental giants. Though Big Show was eliminated
first, Booker T provided the most head slapping moments.
Host: "On the
show Alice, Flo was known for saying "kiss my ____"
Booker: "Butt?"
Host: "What October
Holiday celebrates the discovery of America?"
Booker: "Thanksgiving."
Okay, I'm sorry
for going to hell, but someone has to say it. Shouldn't the black
guy have known "grits"? Lita and William Regal came across as very
bright, while Trish could only answer questions about Canada. HHH
and Stephanie McMahon did maintain that they were married (they aren't)
but everyone else was out of character. HHH and Stephanie faced each
other in the final round and HHH won. The overnight rating for the
show was a typical 7.8.
Bret Hart
Speaks!
Mr. Bitter, Bret Hart, lashed out at Diana Hart in his recent column.
He rips her a new one for her tell all book, Under the Mat: Inside
Wrestling's Greatest Family, coming out soon. Bret also talks
about the recent death of his Mother. You can read it here
because I'm too lazy to find highlights.
Mick Foley
Speaks!
This past Saturday on "Total Chaos," an interview with Mick Foley.
Some of the highlights:
Mick thinks the
biggest problem in the WWF is the lack of explanation of storylines
and characters. Foley said "We've been losing viewers because they don't
have faith in us to tell a good story any more." But made it clear he
doesn't hate what the WWF is doing.
Cited Tommy Dreamer,
Justin Credible, Jerry Lynn and Raven as "proven main-event guys." who
deserve an opportunity and PPV matches.
He's "getting a
kick" out of DDP's new persona but he isn't sure it was warranted. Foley
doesn't think Page got a fair shake when he first came in. "For some
reason guys who can wrestle, who I know can wrestle, are being told
that they can't" said Foley. "One or two bad matches doesn't mean somebody
no longer has it."
Mick thinks the
XWF has a shot to succeed and he hopes it does. He thinks in the past
competition made the WWF better. Doesn't know if they will be competition,
but Foley's glad there's another place for guys to make a living.
Thinks Hulk Hogan
would be an asset to the WWF if he came back for a short run. When Vince
and Linda McMahon were still fighting, Foley thought Hulk would have
been great to bring back on TV as Linda's new boyfriend.
Regarding the possible
return of Hall and Nash: "No question they will add something short
term but is that worth the long term effects?" If he were in charge
he would offer them very heavily incentive-based contracts.
WWF Dirt
An article published today in the New York Post Business Section sheds
more light on last week's WWF layoffs as well as the departure of WWF
President & COO Stu Snyder. Among the items covered in the story are:
Snyder was making
$1.1 million a year and received 300,000 stock options last year. The
options are now worthless because of the stock's sharp slump. WWF has
lost half its value this year and closed yesterday at $11.07.
Vince McMahon slashed
his own bonus by 30 percent this year to $900,000 and received his regular
salary of $1 million.
Snyder recently
borrowed $195,000 from the McMahons to buy a new home and will have
to pay the loan back immediately at 7% interest.
Snyder may be eligible
to receive up to $900,000 on the remainder of his 3 year contract. His
personal stake in the company through the 75,000 shares of stock he
owns dropped from $1.6 million to $864,750 this year.
Michael Goodson
will not be paid jack squat for all his hard work that benefits the
WWF.
Bischoff on
Raw?
On the big Atlanta Raw in July, when ECW reformed and created the
Alliance with WCW, there was actually a bigger plan in mind. Vince
said in a recent interview that he'd had talks with Eric Bischoff
and would put aside their differences for the sake of making a truckload
of money. He actually contacted both Bill Goldberg and Eric Bischoff
about coming in and working with the WWF. Goldberg recently said there
is nothing he would like more than to be wrestling right now, but
he is in the enviable position to get paid for not working. In addition,
Bischoff was on vacation with his family for the July 4th holiday,
and nothing could be worked out in time for the July 9th Raw. However,
that doesn't mean that they couldn't come to an agreement by January
when Scott Hall and Kevin Nash plan on returning to the WWF.
Say hello to
the Bad Guys. Say goodbye to me.
