Raw Preview
I hope something big happens on Raw tonight. With the lack of big surprises
on WWF shows lately and not much happening in the rest of the wrestling
world, this is one short news column. If this keeps up I'll finally
be able to do my Shockwave puppet show reenactment of Wrestlemania 10.

Anyway, Raw is
live tonight from Grand Rapids, Michigan. WWF.com reports that we
will get to see The Rock take on Rhyno for the WCW World title. If
the WWF is smart they will have Rock lose the title to Rhyno. Fans
won't like the Rock any less and it will give Rhyno a big boost. Plus,
go figure, it would surprise people. But don't expect any of that
to happen. Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle will take on Steve Austin
and a partner of his choice. Tonight will be the first time we get
to see two Alliance members face off against each other. Rob Van Dam
vs. Raven for the WWF Hardcore Title (unless Austin stops it from
happening.) Edge and Christian will probably be on hand to further
their split, plus someone has to step up and challenge the Undertaker
and Kane for their tag titles.
J.R. Puts
Foot In Mouth
Jim Ross made his weekly Ross Report on Friday to WWF.com and managed
to piss off a few WCW lovers. Regarding the recent string of injuries
to WCW wrestlers, Ross commented, "Strange that so many of the WCW
talents are getting so banged up. Could it be because of the near
half-speed style they utilized in Atlanta? This ain't ballet." Personally
I found it funny, but there was a lot of negative reaction from the
WCW fans.
Bob Ryder reports…"Maybe
Jim Ross is the one with the attitude problem. Maybe he needs to
realize that the war is over. The WWF won. No useful purpose is
served by trying to continue to kill what is already dead. Taking
cheap shots at WCW may be easier now that the company is dead....but
it's pretty damn stupid, considering the comments are hurting a
company that the WWF now owns."
Bob has a point,
but you have to look at Jim Ross' column as a whole. J.R. often takes
shots at The Big Show, Mark Henry and other WWF Superstars that aren't
cutting it in the ring. Wrestlers should see this as a challenge,
not an insult. As it is, 90% of the WCW wrestlers don't belong in
a WWF ring. Most of them were just learning the business in the WCW
Power Plant when a "desperate for new faces" Vince Russo called them
up and made them full time wrestlers. Shawn Stasiak may have gotten
a few laughs out of me lately, but I'm not going to pay 35 bucks a
month to see him wrestle unless he's working his ass off. The WWF
has more wrestlers under contract now than ever before. Each and every
one of them should be busting their asses off trying to earn the right
to be on television and on pay-per-views.
Ok, rant over.
Class dismissed early today.
