Raw Preview
SummerSlam
is six days away so the WWF will be looking to put the finishing touches
on tonight’s episode of Raw. The show will be live from Chicago and
that’s usually the sign of very big things. The WWF holds a consecutive
sell out record in Chicago, so they always try to please the Chicagoites.
Kurt Angle and Steve Austin will continue their feud, as will The Rock
and Booker T leading to the double main event at SummerSlam. WWF.com
is reporting that tonight we will see WCW World Tag Team Champions Kane
& Undertaker vs. Sean O'Haire & Chuck Palumbo in a steel cage,
Edge & Christian vs. Lance Storm & Justin Credible and Yoshihiro
Tajiri vs. Albert. Hmmm. No X-pac so far, so sounds like a good show.
Wrestlers Don’t Talk to Us
Jon
Waldman of Slam Wrestling got comments from former WWF Heavy Weight
Champion Shawn Michaels last Friday. Shawn was making an appearance
for the WWF in Winnipeg to promote an upcoming show. The best part of
the interview is Shawn’s comments on Bret Hart, which I’m cribbed for
you here.
Michaels has not spoken
with Bret since the Survivor Series, but he would welcome the opportunity
to. "I'd be more than happy to sit down with the guy and talk,
and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way."
Shawn
also talks about Owen Hart, The Outsiders and his WWF legacy. You can
read the entire interview by clicking these
colored words.
The Rock, A Sleazebag
The prestigious Teen Choice 2001 Awards
were held in Los Angeles over the weekend. The Rock won the "Choice
Sleazebag" award for his role at the Scorpion King in "The
Mummy Returns". I have no idea what that means. The show will be
aired on FOX on August 20th.
MECW News
John
Collins, owner of Main Event Championship Wrestling, is serious about
becoming the number two promotion in the US. He made comments this week
that he’s been talking to Randy "Macho Man" Savage, The Road
Warriors and New Jack. Sabu defeated Sandman on August 11th
to become the inaugural champion. The show included Buff Bagwell, Curt
Henning, Public Enemy, Da Baldies, Crowbar and Mike Rotundo. Not a five
star line up but getting there.
Eric Bicshoff was Kung Fu Fighting
Variety.com
reported earlier this week that Eric Bischoff has been named chief operating
officer of Battle Management. The company will represent talent in mixed
martial arts, a sport the Variety report said is second only to soccer
in popularity worldwide. Clients include Mark Coleman and Randy Couture.
It’s good to see that Eric is keeping busy between court trials and
swingers meetings.
Ross Report
My
column was actually on time Friday, which means that I wasn’t able to
give you the flurry of bullet points that recap what Jim Ross said in
his Ross Report. For all you bullet point lovers out there, here it
is.
- Kurt Angle's will be the next
book released by the WWF. It should be out by the end of the year.
- Booker T had a posterior cruciate ligament injury that
caused fluid to drain to his calf; it's been drained and now Booker's doing better.
- Triple H is now aiming for a return
by November 1... Chris Benoit probably won't be back until Spring
2002.
- Stacey Keibler and Torrie Wilson
both have minor ankle injuries.
- Trish Stratus actually had her
ankle operated on and will be MIA for a few weeks
- Billy Kidman and developmental
talent Brock Lesnar have PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) injuries that'll keep them on
the shelf for several weeks.
- Shawn Stasiak (eardrum) and Sean
O'Haire (elbow/shoulder) both have minor injuries that will not cause
them to miss any ring time, which is a shame since I don’t like them.
- Jerry Lynn (knee) should also
be back in action very soon following a knee sprain.
- The Jackie vs. Ivory match that
was taped for SmackDown was scrapped due to time constraints, and
will be revisited on TV this week.
- The Rock is scheduled for "Late
Night with Conan O'Brien" on Sept. 5.
- Big Bossman and Al Snow will be
joining recently retired Dean Malenko in training talents in OVW and
the HWA.
- Mark Henry and D’Lo Brown may
be coming back soon. They are just waiting for the WWF writer to come
up with a story line for them.
- The WWF will have a big Christmas
break, with no shows between Dec. 23 and Jan. 3; I'm guessing that
means a big load of tapings before the 23rd, prior to coming back
for a live SmackDown on the 3rd.
- And because it’s too short for
a paragraph and screams for a bullet point, Triple H made a surprise
appearance at the Terry Gordy Memorial card in Birmingham, Alabama
over the weekend. I hope he comes back soon.
