Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we give you the scoop on what's
happening in and out of the wrestling ring. Somedays it's even funny!

Monday
Thoughts
There
isn’t a ton of news today so I’ll keep this as short and painless as
possible. Lord knows you don’t read this column to see me blabber on
and on about wrestling. Or do you?

Anyway,
The Rock’s return to the WWF on Monday night was a huge success. Not
only entertaining, it set a new record high on TNN. The July 30 Raw
drew a 5.7 rating, up 0.3 from last week. The show peaked with a 7.1
rating when Rock returned during the overrun. It’s amazing that the
WWF has jumped a full ratings point over the last three weeks. It took
them almost a year to do that during the great WCW/WWF war. The show
itself was pretty good. The only major problem I had with it was that
we got to see the first ever WWF/WCW title unification match. That’s
a pretty big deal. Under the right circumstances and with the proper
build-up, that could have been a main event for Smackdown. Instead,
we got to see the one guy that WWF fans boo even though he’s supposed
to be a good guy, X-pac, defeat Billy Kidman. Can’t the WWF booking
team hear the crowd chanting “Die! X-pac die!” during his matches?
The King and The
Kat: A Tregedy
Remember
when Jerry “The King” Lawler quit the WWF in protest over his wife,
Stacy “The Kat” Carter, being fired? Well, she just dumped him. The
King has a 2 part update on his website that is really, really sad.
It’s the kind of thing you would do if your wife left you and you had
a web site and too much free time on your hands. Go read it now, here.
Flair
to WWF
Ric
Flair isn’t really going to the WWF yet, but it makes a nice headline,
don’t you think? However, he was on the "Pro Wrestling Weekly"
radio show this week. On it, he mentioned that he supported Vince McMahon’s
decision to purchase WCW and that he hoped he could work out a deal
with the WWF soon.
Former
WWF Women’s Champ Dies
Rhonda
Singh, who held the WWF women’s title as Bertha Faye in 1995, passed
away on July 27th at the age of 40. Singh had a long career
in All Japan women’s promotion as a monster foreign heel called Monster
Ripper. She held the top women’s title, the WWWA belt, twice in the
late-1970’s and early-1980’s. Singh made her WWF debut in 1995 as Bertha
Faye, love interest of Harvey Whippleman. She began a feud with Alunda
Blayze a.k.a. Madusa, beating her for the title at SummerSlam 1995.
Saturday Isn't Just for Cocks Fights Anymore
Say goodbye to Livewire and Superstars on TNN. Don't
cry, you know you weren't watching. The WWF is shifting the two hours
of programming on TNN from weekend mornings to a two hour slot on Saturday
night. What the WWF intends to put in that time slot is anybody's guess.
A WCW/ECW show? A new WWF show? Best of The Slammy Awards?
Just Bring It
THQ has a new site up to promote
the newest WWF video game. There are a few clips from the game available.
Okay, who am I kidding? I’m trying to stretch this column out. Just
go home. Come back Friday.
