Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we give you the scoop on what's
happening in and out of the wrestling ring. Somedays it's even funny!

Vince McMahon Holds Court
Perhaps in response to the rumored tension between WWF and WCW wrestlers,
Vince McMahon conducted a meeting backstage with the WCW personnel this
week. Vince talked about the WWF and the type of conduct it likes to
see in its wrestlers, both in the ring and backstage. One of the key
things he mentioned was the concept of checking on your opponent after
the match. The subtext of this was probably directly towards Booker
T who left the building before checking to see if Steve Austin was ok
after King of the Ring. The same type of thing happened at the 1999
Royal Rumble between The Rock and Mick Foley, which led to Mick having
hard feelings toward The Rock for many months. In addition, McMahon
encouraged WCW crew to interact with the WWF people. Backstage politics
were a key factor in the demise of WCW prior to the WWF purchasing them.
I’m sure Vince McMahon wants to avoid any possibility of that happening
in the WWF.
New Wrestling Promotion(s)?
Eric Bischoff
is engaged in serious discussions with DirecTV about launching a new wrestling
promotion that would be aired on DirecTV's worldwide satellite system. Last
time we heard from Eric he was managing Matrats, a teen wrestling promotion
based in Canada. Matrats.com is currently a separate project, but may at some
point also be involved in the DirecTV promotion.
On a possibly related note, Hulk Hogan recently stated that he is
working with Universal Studios on a new promotion (as reported here
on Wednesday.) Simcoe.com has a story with Hogan where he says, "I think if Vince
knew what I was going to do, he'd be better off paying me $50 million
a year not to go against him." Somehow I doubt that Vince McMahon
is shaking in his boots with fear of Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster went on
to say that Jimmy Hart, Roddy Piper and Bret Hart (!) would be a
part of the new group to groom young talent. I’ll believe it when
I see it. You can read the
entire article here. But wait, there’s more…
Kid Kash was a guest on WBLQ
FM: Chairshots Radio (no relation) Thursday night. Among the highlights
were:
-When asked about signing with the WWF, Kash said that his
chances are up in the air at this point.
-He's booked to work for
Hulk Hogan's fed on
August 8th. That’s the filming date for the pilot to Hogan
new show, which he will then take to different studios looking for financing.
-He
gives out some details about Hogan's fed, including that they are going
to be getting some sort of a television deal. He also said that they'll
be doings shows at the Universal theme park and will eventually go out
on the road doing house shows.
-Kash talks
about some of the names he's heard that might be involved. He says
that they are planning on bringing in some Mexican wrestlers and working
some cruiserweight matches. He also says that Brutus Beefcake (long time
friend of Hogan) probably be involved, as well as Rena Mero (formerly
known as Sable.)
Now, let’s put
two and two together. We know that Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan were good friends
back in the WCW/NWO days. Both of them are talking about putting a new wrestling
federation together and giving Vince a run for his money. Coincidence? I think
not. But wait, there’s more…

Invasion
PPV Matches
As we speak, WWF writers
are making changes to the storylines based on the fan reaction to the
ECW resurrection on Monday and Thursday. ECW was going to just come
in and merge with WCW, but now it looks as if ECW may remain a separate
entity that has an alliance with WCW. Plans to turn Monday night Raw
in to a WCW show are even on hold.
With that said, here is the tentative Pay Per View lineup for
Invasion on July 22.
- Team WWF (Steve Austin,
Kurt Angle, Undertaker, Kane, and Chris Jericho) vs. Team ECW/WCW
(Booker T, Dallas Page, Bubba Ray Dudley & D-Von Dudley, &
another ECW member. I have no idea if this will be an elimination
match or what.
- Kidman vs. X-Pac in a WCW vs.
WWF Light Heavyweight Title match
- APA vs. Chuck Palumbo & Sean
O'Haire in a WWF vs. WCW Tag Team Title
match
- Tajiri vs. Tazz.
Interesting to
note that on Team WWF, Chris Jericho is the one member that has previously been
a part of WCW and ECW.
It’s a thing that
makes me go hmmmm…
Tough Enough
Episode 4 (it’s really episode #3
since the first one was a “preview,” but the WWF website calls it #4, so why
nit pick?)
Well, it looks as if Bobby
Jo is going to have to find some other way in to the pages of Playboy (her life
long dream) as both she and Victoria quit Tough Enough on last nights episode.
Not once have we had to go to Tribal Counsel©. Victoria was probably tired of
banging her head on the mat, if you know what I mean. Wink, wink.
Male Winner:
I’m sticking with Chris.
Female Winner: Last
week I said that one of the reasons I was picking Pauline to win was because
the other female contestants are clearly not WWF material. This week I pat myself
on the back and smile smugly.
Next to go:
Oh Darrel, thy days are numbered. You think the other players are jealous
of you. You offer not to talk about all the great things you’ve done
for fear of making people more jealous. Denial, thy name is Darrel.
This week Al Snow told you that you stink. What do MTV’s Real World
and Shakespeare have in common that describe Darrel’s role on Tough
Enough? Puck.
Until Monday....
