Wrestlemania
XIX: A Look Ahead

I am literally
vibrating.
|
As always,
I am most excited about WrestleMania, and this year looks
to be an amazing show. From the fact that four matches could
realistically be the main event, to the build that these matches
have received, to the historic possibilities of these matches,
everything has lined up very, very nicely.
The
Three-way for the Women's title between Trish, Victoria, and
Jazz- I am excited
by the prospects this match
offers.
These
are the three best women in the WWE right now, and they have
a strong storyline. I expect Trish to walk out with the belt,
but Victoria is gaining momentum, and getting good ratings,
too. It should be a nice match. I pick Trish.
By the
way, Victoria and Trish are both HOT!HOT!HOT!
Cruiserweight
Title: Rey Misterio vs. Matt Hardy- What can I say,
these two are the best thing in the Cruiserweight division.
Matt Hardy is on the cusp of greatness, as his gimmick has
taken him up in the eyes of most fans. This will be an excellent
match, barring injury or the need to speed through it. Rey
wins.
Undertaker/Nathan
Jones vs. The Big Show/A-Train- No way this is any
good. Jones is far too green, Taker can't carry Big Show,
and A-Train is hopeless. Good time for a beer run. UT keeps
the streak alive.
Kane/RVD
vs. Lance Storm/Chief Morely for the Raw Tag Belts-
This could go either way (like Olivia Newton-John). I really
want to love this, since RVD is spectacular, if spotty, and
Lance Storm is a ring technician, but I have a feeling this
will fall flat. RVD hits the Frog Splash to win him some gold.
WWE
Tag Title Three-way between Rhyno/Benoit vs. Team Angle vs.
Los Guerreros- This could be the show stealer. Rhyno
and Benoit are a solid team that never puts out less than
100%. Team Angle is constantly working and is the only team
that feels like and old school tag team, with combo moves
and a finisher.
Los Guerreros
are amazing, with Chavo stepping, and Eddy always looking
good, if a step down in recent weeks. This should be long,
multi-faceted, and just plain great. This will be the match
that cements Rhyno into a top position. Rhyno/Benoit walk
out champs.
Booker
T vs. HHH for the World Title- Booker's push is a
welcome change for recent RAW offerings. The build has been
only decent, but Book and H worked well together this week,
and I am excited by the possibilities. HHH is champ at the
end, but this is only the start. Long term, Booker holds gold
by June.
Chris
Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels- This will be good. Michaels
can still step it up, and Jericho is at the top of his game
when he works with motivated people. May not get enough time,
but otherwise, it should be very good. Michaels wins with
the Superkick.
Rock
vs. Austin- This is a dangerous match, as it needs
to be real good to build Austin back up and to prove that
Rock still has it. I have my doubts, but the fact that Austin
has always put out good work at Mania, and Rock had a couple
of decent matches with Hurricane and the Battle Royal, and
this may just fly. Austin wins.
Vince
vs. Hogan- Twenty years in the making, and it is being
pushed as the real main event. It will be a good brawl, as
both Vince and Hogan know how to work that style so that their
weaknesses don't show through. It won't be a classic, but
I'd expect a good show. Hogan without a doubt. Mark it, Dude.
Angle
vs. Lesnar- The match. No other story will be talked
about as much in the coming years than what Kurt does in this
match. This may be his last match, and the build has been
great. Lesnar is on the verge, as the crowd buys him as the
real deal, but has yet to become the draw they need. He'll
either make himself the unquestioned #1, or prove that he's
only another in a long line of "almost greats" that
McMahon has given the belt.
This will
be a match built on drama, as I doubt Kurt will take a lot
of big moves, but the whole thing will be built around a couple
of spots that will change everything. I expect big things,
and I think Kurt, knowing that this may be the last chance
he gets to establish himself forever, will give it all, like
Michaels in 1998. Lesnar wins it, but the real match is to
see who gets the standing O at the end.
That's
that. It will be a great show, a memorable show if nothing
else. Angle's performance has the chance to be historic, Hogan
vs. Vince could be the defining moment, the crowd response
to some of the underneath guys could change the direction
of the WWE, especially if they respond to Matt Hardy and RVD
as big stars, as they have at recent shows.
All in
all, WrestleMania will be a great show.
