RAW
Three Hours of RAW is just too damn much. Still, lots of
it was entertaining, but I had to check out at times because
I was just getting over-loaded.
Edge
won the thirty man Battle Royal. This was a good Battle
Royal as they know how to book them by now, which is a very
good thing because they can be horrendous. It was a little
chaotic but once they got it down to the people who really
had a chance to win, it was much better. Edge wrestled it
smart as he slowly made his way in.
The
new WWE magazine had a good comment. In all the years of
the Royal Rumble, the last entrant has never won. Hulk Hogan
won when he was in at number 27 or so and Yokozuna was also
very close to the end, but the #30 guy has never won. Edge
worked hard and he was thrown out through the ropes instead
of over and he pulled Michaels’ hair to take him over
and win the thing. Fun stuff and the first of three Edge
matches for the night.
Chris
Masters and Carlito brawled instead of having their match.
Carlito even bladed. It was an OK brawl before Masters left.
The
World’s Greatest Tag Team and Johnny Nitro beat the
Hardys. The real story here wasn’t the fact that they
played up Jeff’s injuries and beat on him almost the
entire match, but the

many Hardys can they
keep spinning in the air at one time?

reaction that Johnny Nitro got. The
crowd really got into him as a heel and that’s one
of the best signs we’ve had in ages. They beat on
Jeff, who managed a tag, but the numbers just won out. The
World’s Greatest Tag Team just needs to get some big
matches; perhaps a long feud with The Hardys?
I took
a brief break and when I came back, Melina was talking with
K-Fed. The heel heat that eminates from that guy is impressive.
It’s a good thing he’s giving the rub to Johnny
Nitro.
I then
had to sit through an OK Flair vs. Kenny Dykstra match.
I think they’re calling him Dykstra instead of Doane
because there’s the ref Jack Doane. This was a pretty
basic match, though Kenny missed the Legdrop off the Top.
He eventually got a roll-up on Flair that allowed him the
win. Not a great way to use Flair, but what are you gonna
do?
Edge
and Cena had their match and it was pretty good. They set
a high bar with their last feud, so this was good, though
not at that level. Cena got the Cena reaction, which is
expected, and they’re working with it. The crowd was
split between the two of them, as Edge is easily the heel
who is most over as a heel. They worked hard and it was
good.
They
are really starting to understand how to book these matches
to get the most out of the overness of both of the stars.
For instance, the way they’ve booked Umaga and Cena
has been very strong.. Randy Orton interfered and that brought
out DX. Michaels took out Orton and then HHH gave Edge the
Pedigree and that allowed Cena to get the pin. They seem
to be building to Cena vs. HHH at WrestleMania, which is
probably a good thing as they’ve got almost nothing
that seems like a winner in the offing unless they get Hogan
vs. Big Show. Hell, even Rey Mysterio won’t be available.
You
wanna see the definition of bombing? Watch the Cryme Tyme
bit where they brought out a GWB impersonator. It was just
awful. They kept teasing the N-bomb and yet they pulled
back. It was a lame bit.

Um...I'll
sign that contract...

Victoria’s
monster push continued. She took on Mickie James in a Non-title
match. This wasn’t a great match, but Victoria dominated.
The crowd even buys into Victoria, which is a switch. She
reversed an attempt at a Jumping DDT by hanging her up on
the rope and then kicking her in the face. That led to the
Widow’s Peak. Great stuff. I really think the last
couple of weeks have made Victoria into one of the three
best heels of the year.
Kevin
Federline did a promo that I thought was pretty good. He
said he’s not K-Fed. Hey, K-Fed, Len Nimoy said he
wasn’t Spock for years only to realize that, in fact,
he was. He’s got a natural heel charisma and he wasn’t
bad on the stick.
I fell
asleep during the main event (Cena and DX beating Umaga
and Rated RKO). Now, let me say that RAW doesn’t really
have what it takes to put on a three hour show, but they
did a pretty good job here. The Battle Royal worked, the
Victoria stuff, KFed and Nitro, all good. The Cryme Tyme
thing was weak and they could have had a Cryme Tyme match
instead, but these things happen.
ECW
They opened with Lashley vs. Rene Dupree. This was a beating
and it was short. They had a thing where fans could vote
for Lashley’s next big opponent between Test, RVD
and Sabu. Interesting, but they’re overdoing the voting
gimmick.

Apparently,
Heat Miser made a guest appearance.

Matt
Striker beat Balls in a match where they had Brad Armstrong
doing commentary. You know, for being Road Dogg’s
brother, he’s nowhere near as good on the stick. Balls
had the match well in-hand when he missed a Top Rope Leg
Drop and that allowed Striker to hit The Golden Rule and
get the pin.
Hardcore
Holly said that there was a rumor that CM Punk had managed
to punk him out and made him tap, which wasn’t true.
Punk came out and Holly gave him three minutes. This was
a dumb match and CM tried to use the Vise, but Holly went
to the eyes to get out of the sitch. The time limit passed
and Holly jumped him after and gave him the Alabama Slam.
There are worse things than a Holly-Punk program…unless
they job out Punk.
The
Great Khali beat Shannon Moore. I went to the bathroom at
this point.
Test
beat Rob Van Dam and Sabu in a triple threat match. RVD
was the man in this one. He hit a standing Moonsault, but
then went to the top. Test pushed him to the floor. Sabu
gave Test a springboard elbow and springboard leg drop picking
up right where RVD left off.. Test crotched Sabu. RVD came
back and he and Sabu teamed up like old time. Sabu gave
RVD a springboard clothesline and springboard elbow. I’m
not sure the man can do non-springboard moves anymore. This
time, RVD crotched Sabu. Rob hit the Five Star Frog Splash
but Test tossed RVD to the outside and covered Sabu himself.
Tazz then came in and announced RVD won the voting.
Solid
match to end things, though I wasn’t a fan of the
entire show.
