SmackDown!
An average show that just didn’t manage to hold my
attention. It started off with Mr. Kennedy in the ring doing
a promo that was interrupted by the Undertaker’s self-driven
limo. It was a neat effect to see it driving itself. I want
to give a shout out here to my bud Cynan who is pretty darn
sick and a huge Undertaker fan. The Undertaker popped out
of the limo. They’re really trying with this Undertaker-Kennedy
feud, but they need to drop it and let Kennedy find another
option.
London
and Kendrick lost a Non-Title match to Dave Taylor and William
Regal. It was a good little match, and London and Kendrick
might be the best in the world in matches that don’t
get enough time. Spanky’s Sliced Bread #2 finisher
is awesome and he hit it here, but Regal broke up the pin.
Regal chased Ashley around the ring and London made the
save. Kendrick was going to help Ashley and London made
the save there, too, by hugging Ashley. That’s a sign
of a coming break-up, but they shouldn’t do it. These
guys are a great team and should stay together. Taylor used
the distraction to hit a Double Underhook Suplex for the
win.

That's
not where you look for his pot of gold...

Batista
and Finlay had a long match that I thought was OK. Batista
isn’t over to the same level he was a year ago, but
he’s still more than most. Finlay is a great brawler,
and a brawl was what most of this match was. The Leprechaun
went after Batista, but Batista caught and tossed him at
Finlay. King Booker came out and tried to attack Batista,
who caught him to and was about to give him the DemonBomb
until Finlay hit him with the Irish Stick for the DQ.
I watched
Noble vs. Jimmy Yang Wang in a match with Gregory Helms
on commentary. He was really good. He doesn’t get
to talk often, but he made the most of it here. The match
was pretty good, though you’re never gonna get what
these guys are capable of on SmackDown! They went back and
forth and Jimmy ended up getting the win. They’ve
had a long-run champ in Helms and they’ve got a guy
with a great gimmick who’ll be facing him for the
belt soon. I know how I’d book it.
At this
point, I lost interest. There was some Vickie Guerrero stuff,
and I just tuned out until the Main Event. That was Kane
vs. Mr. Kennedy. The match was better than I expected. Kane
took control to start and held it until Kennedy dropkicked
him to the floor into the rail. Kennedy had control when
Kane got back in the ring, hitting a DDT and a Russian Legsweep.
Kane got control again, but MVP ran in and beat on Kane
too for the DQ. The lights went out and when they came on,
Kane was gone. Kennedy ran away and that left MVP in the
ring when Kane’s pyro went off.
TNA
Turning Point Highlights
I again had to rely on finding clips on-line of the TNA
PPV but I did and I was glad I did. I think that TNA puts
on good PPV with great wrestling anyway, but the main event
was awesome enough to make it worth going out of your way
to see.

Well,
at least hotter than Eric Young...
|
The
first thing I managed to find was the Traci Brooks vs. Eric
Young Bikini Contest. I thought this was weak, but I have
to say that Eric is very funny and his continuing stripping
method was actually well done. Traci’s so very hot.
I still think Trinity’s hotter.
I only
managed to see the finish of the Paparazzi Championship
Series where Austin Starr missed the 450 and Low Ki…I’m
sorry, Senshi, rolled him up. It looked like a good ending.
I got
a really bad capture of the Daniels vs. Sabin match. It
was about 3 frames a second with a few periods of regular
stream and full audio. The call of the match, which I usually
don’t get to focus on, was actually pretty darn good.
I felt like I was getting the full match with just the few
flashing images and the call. Tenay is great. It’s
been years since I’ve paid attention to him and here
I thought he was great.
Sadly,
the finish was a single frame held for nearly three minutes,
but Daniels managed to win and then had a confrontation
with Jerry Lynn which I hope means that Jerry will be coming
back. He’s one of the all-time greats who never really
got his due, except for a brief run in ECW.
I was
lucky and found the best version of The Main Event. It was
gorgeous, and when I went to watch it an hour later, it
had already been taken down. No matter, I still got to see
Joe vs. Angle. I thought that the last match between these
two was great, and this one was even better.
This
started with awesome traditional stuff. I think every great
match starts like that. Think of Benoit vs. Angle. They
always started with regular mat work. Angle worked the style
he’s used to, mixing up brawling and pure work. Joe
worked the exact same style. This was one of those times
when two guys with very similar takes worked beautifully
together. There was a great segment where Joe turned Kurt’s
Olympic Slam into the Kokina Clutch, which led to Angle
getting the Ankle Lock. Rad!
They
did the great spot where Angle tried to hit Joe, but ended
up whacking the top rope and that sent the chair into his
own head. Joe managed to get the Kokina Clutch and kept
his feet away which made Angle tap. The crowd loved this
match and they were HOT HOT HOT! I’m hoping they don’t
do a third, unless they do a time limit draw or wait until
Angle or Joe wins the World Title (which is still held by
Abyss).
I wish
I could get these PPVs in full, but alas, not happening
with my cable system. Still, Angle vs. Joe alone was worth
all the effort to find the stuff on-line.
