Falls Count Anywhere

11-13-06

Is this thing on?

Welcome to Falls Count Anywhere! My name is Chris. That is all.

SmackDown!
Well, this was a better episode than I’ve come to expect, but still, there were problems.

They opened with a thing to celebrate King Booker winning the Champion of Champions at CyberSunday. Theodore R. Long came out and said that he had promised Batista a title shot at Survivor Series. That led to Theodore telling Booker that he’d be defending against Lashley, which happened early in the show.

The match between the two of them wasn’t half bad. Lashley still needs a good worker to guide him and Booker isn’t quite at that level at the moment, but he’s still good enough to carry his half. Lashley caught Booker when he tried to leapfrog over him and hit a powerslam. He hit a Spinebuster too. Of course, the finish was Sharmell distracting the ref and that allowed Booker to get the schoolboy and hold the tights for the win.

There, there, let it all out...

They did a lot of backstage stuff with Benoit wanting answers from Vickie and Chavo. I find this whole storyline awful and it hasn’t even led to any good matches.

In a quick match that I kind enjoyed, Jimmy Wang Yang and Matt Hardy beat Gregory Helms and Sylvan. The heels teamed Yang a bit, but when Sylvan came off the top, Jimmy hit him with a Spinning Heel Kick. Hot tag led to cleaned house and hit a Side Effect for a near fall. Yang hit a sweet corkscrew plancha to the outside that is just another reason why he’s actually getting himself over. Matt pinned Helms with a SUPER Twist of Fate. Nice stuff.

Kennedy did a little promo and UT came out. Kennedy pummeled him with the mic and Undertaker ended up all bloody. It was a nice beat down. I really think Kennedy needs to be the one that beats UT at Mania. It would make him forever.

Benoit and K.C. James had a match and I liked it. This was pretty much a semi-squash, with James getting offense in at the start and then the Wolverine getting his suplexes and a diving headbutt. The end was the Crossface after James fought it for a while.

Bring back corporal punishment.

Michelle McCool might be the hottest woman in wrestling right now (if you don’t count Trinity or Ariel). They basically filed the serial numbers off of Stacy Kiebler’s Miss Hancock gimmick and delivered it to a hotter woman. She’s smokin’!

Boogeyman squashed a guy. It’s hard to believe that Boogey’s 43 or so.

Fit Finlay is the Man! He and Batista, who is on Smallville this week, had a decent match. Batista even used a sweet backbreaker that I hadn’t seen before. The Leprechaun hit Batista in the leg with the shillelagh while Finlay was working the ref. Finlay worked on Batista’s leg from then on. Batista then hit shoulder thrusts and used a Muscle Buster. Batista nailed a running powerslam but when he went for the DemonBomb, Finlay managed to get to his leg. Batista hit a spear and a Spinning Side Slam before Booker tried to interfere. That led to Booker pushing Finlay into him and then using a Spinebuster for the win.

OK, that’s all I saw this weekend. More later!

Talk about today's column in the forums!
