Welcome to Falls
Count Anywhere! My name is Chris and All Hail Kong!
CyberSunday
So, I thought CyberSunday was a good show with only a few
minor setbacks. Using the legit voting methods is risky,
but this time it worked out pretty well.
They
had Rey Mysterio vs. Fit Finlay in a Stretcher Match. This
probably wasn’t their best choice, since No DQ has
a lot more promise, but they had a good match that ended
with something of a botched finish. The two of them work
really well together and I’m not surprised. These
two even had some good matches in WCW. Fit was so straight
ahead he beat on Rey over and over and it was fun to watch…not
that I wanna see Rey get beat on. I mean, he’s so
small, so helpless. Fit rammed him into the post, he beat
him with the stick, he hit him! He loves to fight!
Rey
finally hit a 619 that sent Fit onto the stretcher and then
he did a mean Senton! That guy’s the Bomb, yo! After
that, as they were rolling the stretcher towards the line,
the wheels got caught on a camera cord, so Rey had to drop
him back on to the stretcher and then roll him over the
line. They worked it just right when something went wrong.
Good stuff.
They showed Matt
Hardy and he looked like hell after Rey’s kneebrace
caused a big ol’ gash on his melon. They announced
that MVP would either be taking on Kane, the Great Khali
or Mark Henry. Well, one out of three ain’t bad!
We had
something of an upset when The Miz was chosen over Big V
as the opponent of CM Punk. The Miz. I hate the Miz and
he gets the shot. Morrison would have been my choice, but
the heart wants what it wants.
The
match wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either.
There was some sloppiness, but it’s never broke down.
CM Punk is cool, but he’s not really terribly fluid
(except in those Samoa Joe matches. There he was without
fault!)
Punk
hit a gorgeous Slingshot Suplex! If there was an official
maneuver of Falls Count Anywhere, it’s the Slingshot
Suplex. The Miz had to suffer some ‘You Can’t
Wrestle’ chants. The match ended with the Go2Sleep,
which is an awesome move, though it’s fall better
done by my man Kenta, who is facing Misawa for the GHC Title
in New York.
They
had a bunch of the Chicks in costume, my favorite being
Mickie James all Indianed out! She was freakin’ hot!
Since
neither Jeff Hardy nor Mr. Kennedy was chosen to face Randy
Orton, they had to face each other. The match wasn’t
bad at all, all things considered. Hardy was way over, which
is always good to hear. He may never be the top guy, but
he’s one of those guys on the middle of the show that
gets the crowd into him and the show.
The
two of them worked a pretty traditional opening, which we
don’t see nearly enough anymore. The strange fact
is that when guys go to the old headlock-hammerlock-armdrag,
I tend to get into it. Kennedy works a very traditional
style. He’d have gotten along well in the late 1980s.
He used an old-fashioned Neck Vice, which is one of those
moves that is making a comeback. Jeff Hardy flew, though
nothing was terribly notable. Hardy went for a Corner Dropkick,
but Kennedy moved and Hardy went down hard, which led to
Kennedy covering and getting the pin. Good stuff, though
not as good as the opener.
MVP took on Kane.
I took some time to make some dinner. MVP lost via count-out.
HBK
and Randy Orton had a match that was only hurt by the DQ
finish. HBK has learned over the years how to do as much
as he can, never go beyond himself (which is when guys get
really hurt) and get the crowd moving. He did just that
here and Randy didn’t get in his way. Shawn worked
Orton’s arm, including doing the Hammerlock slam like
Mr. Ole Anderson, and then worked a hammerlock. He even
hit one of those awesome Hammerlock/Back Suplex combos that
just worked! I was sold on this match at that point and
there was no turning back.
HBK
got tossed around a little, but never really took any huge
bumps. I mean, he made the normal bumps look great, but
nothing was too crazy. Shawn missed an Elbow off the Top!
This led to him doing it later and then he hit it. Shawn
missed the SuperKick and Orton hit him with a Low Blow which
led to the DQ. They didn’t seem to want to give away
much on this show, which is probably why we’ve gotten
two different screwjobs.
Well,
Umaga vs. HHH was a Street Fight. I wasn’t shocked
by that choice. It was a decent brawl from two guys who
know how to work a good brawl. I think that HHH is one of
the best brawlers of all-time. They had a few moments of
pause, but it was good. It was nice to see a good use of
the ECW table as Umaga put HHH through it. They used chairs
and tables, which made me think of the good old days when
HHH couldn’t do any wrong. The brawling was good and
it ended when Umaga missed his Samoan Spike and HHH got
the Sledge shot and then the Pedigree.
I always
worry that HHH is going to take over the entire show, but
here it was the right way to go. I think Umaga should get
more credit. He’s been a work horse, has remained
over even though he does a fair deal of jobs, and he’s
always reliable for a decent match. Good on you, Umaga!
Wow,
Batista vs. Undertaker. Austin ends up winning the vote
as Special Ref and he gives it to JBL who had a ref’s
shirt and was saying that he was the obvious choice. The
match was really good. These guys had a good one at WrestleMania,
and they ended up having one here that was almost exactly
as good.
A strongman’s
match can be difficult to watch unless the guys mix in more
than the expected. They worked hard, which is not Batista’s
strength, but they made every move count, especially the
teases of their finishes. I was half-expecting a DQ finish,
possibly a Double-DQ because Taker doesn’t need to
do any jobs right now and Batista and UT have more money
to draw, but they gave the win to Batista with the DemonBomb,
which had followed another DemonBomb! Sweet.
They
had a great spot where UT took a Spinebuster and kicked
out before doing the sit-up, which freaked Batista. Just
a really good match. These guys are all Main Event talent,
even if they don’t always show.
I’d say
this was a go-find show as it didn’t have a lot going
on paper, but it ended up being really good.
That’s
all for today! More on Thursday!
