Welcome
to Falls Count Anywhere! My name is Chris and I’ll
be writing a lot the next few days.
The
Benoit Case
There are still no answers. Did Benoit have steroids in
his system? Yes and no. He had incredibly high testosterone
levels, which is a part of a steroid cycle and he had Xanax
and various painkillers in there, too. Nancy had Xanax and
some other painkillers. Daniel had Xanax in his system and
the lack of urine meant that they couldn’t do tests
for whatever it was that had been injected into his arm.
The Fragile X question is still up in the air, though some
are starting to doubt it a lot more than believe it. There
have been few changes in what people think happened.
All
of this has led to another round of stories on the various
talk shows. Jerry McDevitt, McMahon’s lawyer, went
on tv and said that there were no steroids in his system.
That is both true and false and it’s his job to cast
doubt. The doctor that runs the testing program for the
WWE, who I’ve heard is very professional and respected
in the medical community, never said that the stuff Benoit
had in his system was the type of thing that would be used
in a cycle. There was a general lack of realism to most
of the coverage, though Dave Meltzer was pretty good in
his portion of the show he was on.
Still,
there’s no way to know what this tragedy will do to
the business. It’s changed a lot of lives, and there
have been a few wrestlers who have talked about it (William
Regal, Victoria, etc) and according to the Observer they’ve
still got counselors if folks wanna talk at the shows. That’s
an interesting twist.
News
and Notes
Edge is screwed again! He’s hurt himself to the point
where they had to do a Battle Royal at the tapings this
week to crown a new Champion. You’ll find out who
it is soon enough, thank you. They also determined what
the match would be for the SmackDown! title at the Great
American Bash in San Jose this Sunday!!! I’ll be there,
you know.
The
show is built largely around the RAW matches, which makes
sense. The biggest deal is Cena vs. Lashley and there’s
no telling which way that’s gonna go. I’d say
that Cena holds on to the title because he’s the bigger
draw right now. If they really wanna get Lashley over, they
might give him the belt and let Cena chase it for a while
and then win it back after Lashley’s got a bit of
a rub. That might just work. With the booking patterns of
late, I have no idea.
TNA
has been talking to RVD, but there’s no deal.
The
word on the whole Jackass thing is that it’s still
an option, but not nearly as strongly as it was. The Benoit
deal really messed with plans and they may not go with it
now.
No
word on anything with Jericho other than he’s happy
to have some time off and is working on music and acting
a fair deal.
John
Kronus, real name George Caiazo, ½ of the Eliminators
from ECW in the late 1990s, passed away on Tuesday. He was
an incredibly agile big man working in ECW in a team with
Perry Saturn. The two were called the Best Tag Team in the
World, and they toured Japan and also worked USWA for a
while too. The Eliminators were involved in some classic
feuds, including one with the Gangstas that was good and
violent. They also worked against the Dudleys in one of
the first big pushes for Buhbuh-Ray and D-Von, and against
Sabu and Van Dam. It was a sight to behold to see Kronus,
6’3 and 300 or so pounds, do a Great Sasuke-style
Flying Space Tiger Drop.
He
was probably in his late 30s or early 40s, but there’s
not a lot of info out there with his birthdate. I understand
that he did some bondage porno work with Nicole Bass.
RAW
I saw a bit of RAW, mostly because I was going through the
docs that the Coroner released most of the evening. The
show wasn’t bad.
They
opened with King Booker coming out and facing off with Jerry
Lawler. Lawler was great in this piece. Booker demanded
that Lawler kiss his ring, Lawler refused and they brawled.
It was a good, old-timey Southern angle worked by the King
of Old-Timey Southern angles. Well, the King now that Eddie
Gilbert is no longer around. The brawl was good and they
were pulled apart. I also thought that Sharmell looked really
hot.
We
got a decent elimination match among Jeff Hardy, William
Regal, Santino Marella and Shelton Benjamin. They should
have had Benjamin win the thing, and he even hit a good
Blockbuster off the top, but instead they went with Hardy.
I thought Regal did a helluva job in this one, working very
hard and showing why they think he could be the Finlay of
RAW by teaching guys. I like they way they’re using
him! The match was quick and the guys worked hard.
I saw
Orton beat Cody Rhodes in a match that made little sense
booking wise. Why have Orton dominate this guy who has tremendous
potential to be a real star? They should have either let
them have a real, competitive match and then let Orton win.
They need to protect their young guys, even if it means
depushing their old drawing cards. And Orton hasn’t
exactly been a real drawing card for a while.
They
had a bunch of stars talk about who would win: Cena or Lashley.
Cena was consensus choice. That makes me think Lashley,
though I’ve been fooled by these things before.

I'm
not going to argue Garcia on this one.

Melina
and Beth Phoenix, the hottest Tag Team in the World, took
on Candice and Mickie James, the 2nd hottest Tag Team in
the World. It was fast and Melina used her Legdrop finisher.
It was short and did it’s job. I wanna see how Melina
vs. Candice does at the PPV, where I’ll be LIVE!
Lashley
and Cena faced off. Lashley mostly just stood there and
Cena talked. That’s what he does. Cena said that he’d
be ready and Lashley said that he’d let Cena’s
mouth write the checks and then he’d deposit them
in his ass. I’m paraphrasing. No WWE writer would
come up with that!
That’s
all for this week. I’ll have a post-Great American
Bash report on Monday!
Talk
about today's column in the forums!
