Falls

Welcome
to Falls Count Anywhere! My name is Chris and it's just
too soon to publish what I was going to say here.
Sometimes,
you wonder why things happen the way they do. There are
serious problems with booking in general in TNA, and the
Madison Rayne vs. Angelina Love match this weekend was a
perfect example of how they just don’t get it.
Angelina
Love and Velvet Skye were the original Beautiful People,
the best female tag team in the US for a while. They’re
both gorgeous, they both can talk and they’re both
decent in the ring. They’re no Trish Stratus (and
I am reminded of this because I watched two Trish matches,
one from 2002 and one from 05, this weekend) but they were
likely the best that TNA had going for them.
After
a while, they added Madison Rayne to the team and it got
even better. Angelina had issues with the Government, very
similar to what the English guys in WWE had recently, because
Angelina’s a Canadian. This led to the new Beautiful
People with Lacey Von Erich added (who is amazingly hot,
by the way). This feud has a great story going in: Angelina
feuding with the girl who replaced her. It’s a solid!
The
problem is that Russo & Co. don’t understand how
to book for logic. They had the Beautiful People interfere
in matches with Angelina challenging for Madison’s
Knockouts Title. This is smart booking, the group that Angelina
was a part of now blocking her from taking Madison’s
title. Logical. Madison has also been acting all high-and-mighty,
which is annoying her teammates. This is OK, it makes a
little sense that we could see Lacey and Velvet breaking
off and becoming faces and leaving Madison.
In the
best of all worlds, it would be Velvet turning on Lacey
and Madison and then the re-united Original Beautiful People
could feud with Madison and Lacey. It would be a great story,
but alas, it’s not the direction they took.
So,
with the interference, they decided to make the rule that
if the Beautiful People interfered in the match with Angelina
at Hard Justice, Angelina would win the title. Smart booking,
sort of. Theoretically, this could lead to the break-up
and set-up a real tag team feud.
Of course,
that’s not what happened.
Instead,
the match was just kinda there, until a woman on a motorcycle
rode up and interfered. You couldn’t see her face,
it was completely obscured by a cycle helmet, and the ref
decided that it was a member of the Beautiful People and
awarded the title to Angelina. To make matters worse, they
never showed who the woman was and they had Madison drive
off on the cycle with her.
What
the Hell?
This
makes no sense. Why would Madison drive off with the woman
who cost her the title? Why would the ref DQ Madison if
it wasn’t obvious that the woman was with the Beautiful
People?
This
could have been a very cool angle a couple of different
ways. They could have had the ref say that it might not
have been a member and that the match will continue, then
allowing Angelina to score a real pin, win the title and
get a good babyface pop. They could have had the same ending,
with the ref awarding the title to Angelina and then have
the motorcycle woman pull off her helmet to reveal Tara
or Roxxi, one of the women that Madison had ‘retired’
and that they would have gotten their revenge. That would
have also allowed for them to do an angle on TV where the
Beautiful People said they didn’t interfere and the
title could be held-up and there could be a big reveal.
That would have been fun.
Instead,
they had Madison ride off with her.
It just
makes me want to spit!
That’s
all for this edition! More to come!
