I
had a bad CPAP smear...

Welcome to Falls Count Anywhere! My name
is Chris and I’m sorry…
Thoughts
I didn’t watch RAW this week for a very good reason:
I fell asleep. I just couldn’t keep my eyes open during
it. Hopefully my new CPAP machine will prevent that from
ever happening again. I missed ECW because…well, it’s
ECW. I just don’t like it. That doesn’t mean
there’s not news and opinions that I can talk about!
The
first is a set of firings. Sabu was let go, according to
the Observer, as was Vito. Vito was an experiment gone wrong.
They had a weird idea at a booking meeting, they followed
through and made it into a joke that got little reaction.
It was just bad stuff. He’s already taking indy bookings,
and believe it or not, he’ll probably get a lot of
work there with the dress gimmick. It’s the weird
gimmicks that always do best on the road. Doink works to
this day on the Indy Circuit and can ask a pretty penny.
Sabu
is a different story. Here’s a guy who gets little
respect even though he really popularized the insane wrestling
style that ECW came to be known for. He was the guy who
made high flying matches with insane bumps popular, which
gave rise to guys like Hayabusa, the Hardys, AJ Styles and
everyone who stepped into the WSX ring. He was never the
best worker in the world, but his style changed the business
and he had some classic matches. He was also a major pain
backstage, was fired from ECW for taking a Japanese booking
instead of honoring an ECW show, and from WCW while they
were on the air with a show (I seem to remember it being
a PPV). It’s just insane how talented he was at his
style. He was a big star in FMW in Japan before coming to
ECW and becoming a giant star there.
When
he came back to the fake ECW, he had a sort of career rebirth.
He had several very good matches and looked like a million
bucks for a couple of months. That ended with the slow leaking
of air from ECW and his arrest with RVD for pot possession.
RVD got suspended and Sabu got depushed, but they needed
him because RVD was out of the picture.
The last couple of months have been bad
for the silent one. He had a decent couple of matches on
TV, but not many. He was no longer pushed like a star, which
is a shame. Back to the indies he’ll go, maybe back
to TNA if that bridge wasn’t too badly burned. He’s
in his 40s now and he’s banged up, but there are mouths
to feed and he’s never made big money in the biz compared
to most.
Edge jobbed to Shawn Michaels in his last
match on RAW. It was an interesting choice, one that goes
back to the days when you’d have a guy leaving and
you’d have him put someone else over, but it’s
all the same company and he’s holding a belt. It does
set up a title match between Michaels and Edge, which they
could do at this PPV or the next, but they badly need to
make a real challenger from within SmackDown! instead of
going to RAW for it. I’m worried about how all of
this is going to go down.
If you’re as big a Shark Boy fan as
Film School Chris, go to Coconutz in Middleton, OH on May
27th as he’ll be hosting Fan Appreciation night.
There’s no news on the June 2nd event
in LA. They’ve only started selling tickets, but there’s
no way they’ll fill enough seats to make the LA Coliseum
a viable option. They should be looking for a smaller venue
(like the Maya theatre where Lucha-va-voom runs) or just
scrap the show. Still, there’s money in Lesnar and
if they can get it together and promote the hell out of
it (and Gina Carano is on the card and she’s probably
the best woman shootfighter around) they might be able to
avoid breaking the bank.
OK,
that’s all I’ve got. I’m doing a Monday
edition, but not a Thursday one as I’ll be out of
town for a couple of days leading into BAYCON!!!
