Welcome
to Falls Count Anywhere! My name is Chris and I'm a Rocker!
UFC
thoughts
I watched a lot of UFC recently and the big deal that I think
will change the face of the sport is the direct KO of Georges
St. Pierre. Matt Serra, who is the real deal but in theory
isn't in the same league as Matt Hughes or St. Pierre, put
him to the mat in the first round. That's a big deal because
it means that we'll be seeing Serra, who isn't a crowd fave
or even a strong root against, facing big names when they're
supposed to be drawing buyrates.
The other
thing is the meeting of my two favorites: Diego Sanchez and
Josh Koscheck. Koscheck dominated Diego, which I certainly
didn't expect. Diaz just didn't seem to bring it to the fight.
I don't get why everyone hates Koscheck. He's the best fighter
in UFC at his weight (and I'd pick him over folks like Tito
Ortiz because he's just that sort of difficult) and the whole
thing with that bastard Chris Leben put me firmly on Koscheck's
side. I gotta say that the fight wasn't that entertaining
either.
Kendall
Grove beat Alan Belcher with a choke. Kendall is a big deal
and will probably be one of the big draws shortly. If this
PPV does a good number, and I'm betting it'll do slightly
better than average, that could mean that they understand
that Koscheck, Sanchez and Grove are big draws.
Briefly
on SmackDown!
I didn't watch all of SmackDown!, but I thought about it.
The first show for a brand after Mania is a big deal, and
since they had all the guys, it was really a cross-over episode.
They opened
the right way with Mr. Kennedy, who now insists on being called
Mr. Money in the Bank. He then faced off with Jeff Hardy.
Hardy was the early leader, but Kennedy tossed him to the
outside and worked him over. They go back and forth a few
times with some good stuff, and Kennedy even got a near-fall
with a Running Knee.

Jeff
Hardy ...or Firestorm the Nuclear Man?
|
Kennedy
is old school in a way, working impact moves for near-falls
where most would simply use them as a stepping stone to a
bigger high spot nowadays, and he's very much a wrestler of
the New Century because he's got a moveset that works in today's
wrestling. Good thing too. He wins with a DDT following Jeff
missing a Swanton. After the match, Hornswaggle The Little
Bastard chases him right into the waiting Finlay. Nice way
to start that program.
In an
attempt to recoup the outlay with Ashley, they had Timbaland
and Ashley do a thing backstage only to interrupted by the
talentless (and gimmicked for it) Jillian. It was weak.
Benoit
lost to The Miz when MVP interfered. That was the dumbest
thing possible. Honestly, on my list of things that are just
wrong, The Miz still being employed is one of them. They've
got 2 Cold Scorpio on hold and they're still using The Miz
on TV. That's just sad.
That was
all I saw (I had to go and pick up Evelyn, so I missed the
rest of the night).
Check
out this piece I found on YouTube. You'll be glad that you
did.
Sadly,
that's all for this week since I'm at the Sonoma Valley Film
Festival until Monday!
