Listen up!
RAW
They were very smart by not actually turning Cena at the beginning. Instead, they had him come out and reference the fact that they were booing and asked them to boo louder. He then did his bit, saying that he wants his rematch right here and right now. He actually played this really well and Lita then came out with his belt. Cena called her a One Woman Hooker Parade. She tells him that he’ll get his match at The Rumble. This could be a way to see if they can get him over as a face by having him up against a ghastly heel.

They had a fast little match between Ashley and Trish. They basically had a few moves, but then Ashley dropped Trish on her face, covered her and then Mickie James came in and beat on Ashley, saving Trish. Nice touch.

They had a match to determine who will be in the Rumble. I have a really good feeling about the Rumble. They showed with the way they booked Carlito that they understand that matches like these can get new guys over, so I’m betting that someone will move up, and with Chavo Guerrero pinning Rob Conway, it might be him as a way to capitalize on Eddie’s death.

That sounded wrong, but Chavo’s got rub from his the fans due to his association with Eddie. Eddie is still the most over wrestler on the roster. Chavo won with the Frogsplash in a amtch that was pretty good considering that no one thought it had anything going for it.

Carlito and Chris Masters took on Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle. There was a series of backstage spots where they had Shawn asking if Shawn could trust Kurt. Kurt said that he had a Gold Medal, which is a symbol of integrity. Good point. The match wasn’t bad, as they had two guys who can really go and Carlito seemed to get a little bit of a rub. There were distinct ‘That’s Not Cool!’ chants.

In response, Carlito upped his game and had a really good match with the guys. I really think that Carlito is going to be big. Highest of the Mid-Carders, that’s for sure, but he’s got skills and he’s young. I hope he keeps going because I see a lot of young Roddy Piper in him. Angle and Michaels couldn’t work together, as Kurt kept finding ways to avoid a tag.

One of the better finishers of recent months saw Michaels punch Kurt, which served as a tag. He then brought him into the ring and SuperKicked him, which led to Masters getting the MasterLock and then getting the win when Kurt passed out. This was probably the best match that Masters has been in other than the Elimination Chamber.

HHH basically did an interview where he said that he was going to win the Rumble and then come back and win the belt at Mania. Will, Steph will still be heading up the booking by that point. She’ll probably not leave the committee until June or July. He said that Edge wasn’t even in the picture before last night. Great way to bury the new champ, playa.

Nice bit where they had Torrie, Candice and Victoria get into the Edge sex bed and pull the covers over them. Candice looked really really hot.

....aaaaand the prom night trifecta is completed.
Shelton and his Mama (which is such a bad angle, though it allows Shelton to play heel) took on Val in a qualifier. Shelton and Val work pretty well together, but they were kinda hamstrung by the Mama gimmick. Shelton works stiffer than most. He needs to leave and go to TNA. You’ll very seldom hear me say that, because the money and the exposure are so much bigger in the WWE that it’s never a bad idea to be on the roster, but really, they’d let him have great matches and they’d be heated and they’d probably use him higher on the card. Val has always been a better than decent worker, so this was solid.

Mama was yelling a lot and it was very distracting. Val missed the Moneyshot, Val kicked out of a roll-up and then they went to the Stinger Splash which led to Val getting a roll-up. Sadly, they had Val lose after Mama hit him with her hair thingee and then Val got the Exploder. Sadly, it was decent until then, even if the crowd was dead.

I missed Kane vs. Snitsky because I didn’t get back from watching Rollergirls in time. That’s a great show!

Edge did his thing. He basically teased the fun with Lita and he outlines his plan from the night before. Then they start going at it. They have Lita strip down and crawl under the covers. Flair comes out. He shouts down Edge a bit and then they brawl a bit, but he ends up taking a chair shot and then a one-man Conchairto. Wow.

It was nice to hear Joey Styles with his traditional ‘Oh My GAWD’. John Cena then came through and looked under the covers. He pulled Lita out, but she was wearing the Edge t-shirt. He gave her an FU and that was all.

This was the right way to come off of all of the issues they’ve had over the last few months. With a few exceptions, I really think that things are going much better. Those exceptions include Shelton. I think there’s a lot more thought going into how they proceed from here. Rumble looks good, and I’m hoping for a big switch and someone unexpected getting the win. I love the title of Edge as The Rated-R SuperStar!

That’s all for this week. More next!
