Welcome to Falls
Count Anywhere! My name is Chris and I’m so very very
tired.
RAW
OK, I’m so disappointed. The K-Fed vs. John Cena wasn’t
what it needed to be. They needed to have Cena destroy him
and bloody him up but no, they had Umaga interfere and allow
K-Fed to get the win.
This
was a major disappointment and I’m not at all happy
with it. True, it may have had more to do with Federline’s
requests, but still it wasn’t smart. The segment dragged
long.
Backstage, while
K-Fed was celebrating, Maria went to interview him and Melina
slapped her. Coach also made a handicapped match with Cena
vs. Umaga, Armando and Nitro.
There was a terrible
match with The Highlanders and Cryme Tyme against The World’s
Greatest Tag Team and Cade & Murdoch. The match was
just a train wreck. They had Shaq there and he played along
with the Cryme Tyme picking his pocket. The match was awful
and it’s a shame that World’s Greatest Tag Team
isn’t running these guys over. True, they had Murdoch,
who is a talent, do the job, but still.
Jeff Hardy beat
Rob Conway in a match that saw Conway say that his resolution
was to win the match. My resolution was to be more judgmental.
He said he’d quit if he didn’t win and Jeff
rolled him up in thirty seconds. They had McMahon come out
and say that Conway was fired. Meh.
DX came out to
a good pop and did a long promo that was really pretty good.
They were far more serious than they’d been lately
and they got a great reaction. They basically said they
could be a funny, happy-go-lucky group, but they could also
be ass-kickers and will make Randy and Edge bleed. Good
interview, very effective.

In the
best example recently of bad wrestling/good outside stuff,
Melina beat Maria with Victoria on commentary. Victoria
came off as a serious female bad ass and after Maria got
pinned (Melina botched the pin the first time), she rolled
into the ring and was about to attack Melina when she turned
her wrath on Lillian Garcia. She was about to give Lillian
the Widow’s Peak when Mickie James made the save.
They had a nice
recap of the trip to Iraq. It was a good show and a good
package they showed. The only negative was the shot of Vince
against a background of the American flag looking heroic.
I missed a couple
of short segments and came back when Masters had the Masterlock
on Carlito. Flair came in with a chop block and I realized
that the match was Masters and Kenny Dykstra vs. Flair and
Carlito. It ended up with Flair getting pinned. This led
to Edge and Orton giving Flair the RKO and then the Conchairto.
This was a weird angle to do so quickly after Flair getting
hurt so recently. They need to start taking their time with
these angles.
The end was Cena
getting DQed in the Handicapped match. Federline was on
commentary. Cena did give Armando and KFed the FU after
the match, which was really the only thing worthwhile going
on.
Bad episode.
UFC-
Liddell vs. Ortiz
Let me say this right off: I’ve never liked Tito Ortiz.
His style just doesn’t excite me, and even though
he has had some great fights (his match with Frank Shamrock
was incredible), I’ve never thought he was one of
the greats. In 2004, Chuck Liddell, who I’ve always
thought was the best UFC fighter, beat him with a solid
punch in a disappointing fight. The rematch is being called
one of the most important UFC’s ever, mostly because
they expected it to be the first to break 1 million buys.
It was the main event for a card that had a lot of great
matches, including Jardine beating Forrest Griffin in a
very exciting fight. The main event was great too.
Chuck started
off strong, and though Tito gave him some fight back, at
the end of the first round, Tito was bloodied and as close
as you’ll ever see a fighter get to being completely
out without the fight being stopped. True, he was trying
to come back, but it was serious beating Tito took. The
next round was Tito in control at times, but it still felt
like Chuck was controlling the match. Tito couldn’t
get a clean takedown and every time he went for one, Chuck
would make him pay.
The last round
saw Tito start off strong and the two trade until Chuck
just overpowered him and put him away. It was great to watch
Tito crumble. He should have been called out in the first
round, but he came back after that beating and managed to
more than hold his own in the second. The third looked like
it might be the turning point, but no, it just ended up
being Liddell’s perfect spot. It was a slightly better
fight that the 1999 Shamrock fight and I think it was even
better than the fight Tito lost in every way but on the
scorecards to Forrest Griffin. I’m glad I got a chance
to see it and now I just wonder who’s going to stop
Chuck Liddell, who also happened to have a torn ACL during
the fight!
That’s
all for this week! More next time!
