Yes, I'm
up for a local Emmy -- Best Lesbian Kiss.

Welcome
to the Falls Count Anywhere Backlash review. My name is Chris,
and I am up for a local Emmy.
Backlash
is over, and I wasn't disappointed, but it wasn't a great
pay-per-view. Looking at the way they built it, the way they
chose to portray their stars, I am surprised that they pulled
off a PPV that worked this well. The crowd at the Worchester
Centrum was hot and made a couple of the matches better than
they actually were.
The
Good
Team
Angle vs. Los Guerreros-
A strong match, with Chavo looking great and Benjamin having
a really good match. Eddy had his best match in a while, too.
The whole thing was pretty good, and Chavo's aftermatch backdrop
plancha onto Team Angle was really cool. I'd say this was
the best match of the night.
RVD
and Kane vs. The Dudley Boys-
Decent match, and solid booking the whole way through. The
story of the match worked really well, and RVD looked good.
Kane as a tag wrestler is a slight waste, but he's working
better than he has been. Run-in by Lance Storm, the Morley
stuff, and the match itself worked together with the storyline
to come up with a very good result.
Brock
Lesnar vs. John Cena-
What
the Hell? Prior to the event, I would not have thought that
this would make the good list. The match went back and forth,
and Cena went from being a punk to being a serious star.
Not the
best match on the show, but Brock pulled his weight and Cena
worked the crowd. The big "Let's Go Cena" chant,
even after he praised the Yankees, is a testament to the fact
that he will be big.

Not getting
enough roughage?

Goldberg
vs. Rock-
...was exactly good. No better, no worse. The crowd responded
to it, and it felt like a serious main event.
Goldberg's
traditional moves and facials are all back, which probably
will help in the long run, as he is not the best wrestler,
but he does have a good set list. Atmosphere made the match.
The
Average
The
Sable/Torrie/Stacey stuff
...was OK, but they are all such terrible actors that it only
averaged out.
This would
have been in the Bad column, except for Stacey taking the
Rubbermaid falling on her head.

When good
flatware goes bad...

The
Big Show vs. Rey-
Not a very good match, though Rey did a lot of stuff that
made it watchable. Big Show got the pin, which is a great
way to bury your third most popular wrestler on SmackDown.
The Big
Show returned and swung Rey like a baseball bat into the ringpost.
Rey was legitimately shook up, and hurt his wrist. No concussion
though.
The
Bad
O'Haire
vs. Rikishi- How bad was this? Very. Piper wasn't enough
to bring this up, either, though he did do some good mic work.
The O'Haire finisher was the best part.
Nash/HBK/Booker
T vs. Flair/HHH/Jericho -
Hey, it wasn't badly worked, since the amount of talent in
there was very high, but Nash brought things all the way down.
The crowd died, the story fell flat, and the match just kept
going and going. I had high hopes, and they fell well short.
All in
all, an average PPV that beat expectations. I would have liked
to have seen a better six man match than the one they gave
us, but that would have required dumping Nash. Some of the
big spots, like Rey taking the blow to the ringpost, were
spectacular, but maybe a little too dangerous.
I've got
nothing but fear in my heart for what happens next, as this
PPV didn't leave us with much to look forward to.
