While some of us may have still been waiting to be raptured, instead quite a few chose to spend Saturday walking the aisles of the Big Wow! Comicfest in downtown San Jose, CA.
Maybe it's not the largest or the loudest convention you'll attend, but that's a good thing. You get a chance to spend a little time talking to creators without feeling like you're holding them up quite so much, and with a little more focus, you can discover new creators.
And despite its smaller size, Big Wow! attracts some big names. Sergio Aragones, Frank Cho (who we must again plug just got the rights back to Liberty Meadows), Jim Silke and Don Rosa (we just discovered his work through Boom Studios' reprints of his Duck material) made the trek. Then you had local talent like DC inker Mick Gray, working steadily at his table.
I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention up and comers like Chris Moreno and of course Xeric award-winning creator Ben Costa, and friend of the podcast Gaz Gretzky. Plus Illusive Comics and Games (our home base) hosted the gaming section with sixty tables and demos going on all day! Ask owner Anna Warren Cebrian about her defeat at Twister. All this and Power Rangers, too!
